Obituary for Mark Wayne Blackburn

Mark Wayne Blackburn, age 63 of Springfield, passed away Monday, October 28, 2019 at Select Specialty Hospital by St. Thomas Midtown.

The family will receive friends 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday, October 30th and 9am to 11am on Thursday, October 31st at Austin & Bell Funeral Home Greenbrier. The funeral service will follow at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Lights Chapel Cemetery.

Mark was born August 4, 1956 in Springfield, TN to the late William Johnson and Frances Lassiter Blackburn. He was also preceded in death by daughters, Marcy Blackburn, Kristy Blackburn; brother, Kenny Blackburn and sister, Marilyn Potetee.
He was employed at Unarco as a machinist. He loved bowling, going to the mountains, nature and wildlife, the 700 club and his family.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Betty Ayers West, 89, of Springfield, passed away on Monday October 28, 2019 at the home of her daughter.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday November 1st at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Jim Woodard officiating. Interment will follow in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jorge Guadamuz Lopez, Mark Redfern, Travis Ayers, Sammy “Bo” Ayers, Nathan Fisher, and Clifford Gregory serving as pallbearers. . The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. West was born September 14, 1930 in Robertson County to the late George Clyde and Willie Henry Garrison Ayers. She graduated from the last class at Cedar Hill High School in 1949. Mrs. West was a homemaker and a member of Hopewell Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, canning, gardening, and was known for her homemade pickles. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years: Marvin West, siblings: Thomas Ayers, Donald Ayers, Henry Ayers, Lois Robertson, Viola Anderson, Wilmoth Goodwin, and Julia Sneed.

Miss. Krisle was born October 6, 1928 in Springfield to the late Arthur and Mamie Robertson Krisle. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. Miss. Krisle worked as a caretaker and sitter for people in their homes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings: Vernice Porter, Ollie Mae Ogg, and Clebren Krisle, by her nieces: Martha Tate and Juanita Coffman, and by her nephew: Jerry Krisle.

Obituary for Harold Gene Denning

Harold Gene Denning, 85, of Cottontown, passed away on Monday October 28, 2019 at Skyline Medical Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday October 30th at 2:00 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Reverend Russ Noss and Dr. Bill Owen officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery with Ryan Denning, Joshua Denning, Seth Broadus, Fletcher Broadus, and Mike Broadus serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Robertson County Funeral Home and then on Wednesday from 12 noon until service time at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

Mr. Denning was born October 22, 1934 in Portland to the late James Evie and Pearl Knight Denning. He graduated from Portland High School, where he played football for the Portland Panthers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, having served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Denning also played football for the Marine Corp while in service. He was a retired Construction Inspector for TVA and the Corp of Engineers. Mr. Denning was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner and was a member of the Portland Lodge. He loved working jigsaw puzzles and all types of sports, especially the UT Vols and Portland Panthers. Mr. Denning loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and always wanted to be involved in what they were doing.

Herman Reeves “Jr.” Murphey, 66, of Cedar Hill, passed from this life on Thursday October 24, 2019 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Memorial services will be conducted Wednesday October 30th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County with Reverend Andy Ward officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Garrison, Michael Cobb, Clyde Dean, Ronny Noles, Randy Holland, Danny Atchley, Kenneth Reynolds, and his Destin golf buddies. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Murphey was born December 28, 1952 in Springfield to the late Herman R. and Katherine Pierce Murphey, Sr. He was a graduate of Springfield High School Class of 1971, and then attended Austin Peay State University. He was the co-owner of the former Xanadu in Springfield and was a retired Lab Technician from Dupont. Mr. Murphey was a member of Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved playing golf and pickleball, working crosswords, and going to Destin with family and friends. He was an avid TN Vols and TN Titans fan.

Larry Gordon Lee, age 82 of Pleasant View, Tennessee, died, Sunday, October 27, 2019 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church, Wednesday, October 30, at 2:00PM with Bro. Don Dungan and Bro. Randy Riggs officiating. Burial will follow in the Lee Cemetery in Coopertown with Matt Redfern, Bruce Drake, Todd Lee, Tommy Lee, Brian Edwards, and Mickey Drake serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Greer, Chip Duke, Johnny Corlew, and the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department.

The family will receive friends at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View, Tuesday, October 29th, from 2-8:00PM, and again on Wednesday from 11:00AM until the hour of service at 2:00PM at the church.

Mr. Lee was born on April 4, 1937 in Flewellyn, Tennessee to the late Herman and Gert Henderson Lee. He was a founder of the Pleasant View Volunteer Fire Department, a longtime manager of grocery stores in Pleasant View, and retired after 30 years driving the school bus for Cheatham County Schools. Larry was a beloved member of the staff of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View since opening in May of 2010. He served in the National Guard and was a member of Good Springs Free Will Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Charlie and Bobby Lee.

Obituary for JR Reeves

Age 89 of Goodlettsville went home to be with the Lord Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Skyline Medical Center. He was born June 27, 1930 in Nashville, TN to JT and Rosie Cobble Reeves. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in the construction industry before his retirement. Mr. Reeves was a member of Millersville Community Church, where he served faithfully. He loved his church and spent each Sunday morning in prayer prior to services in the sanctuary. He was an avid fisherman, loved feeding the hummingbirds and enjoyed making homemade ice cream for everyone, especially his church family. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents, JT & Rosie Cobble Reeves; wife, Joyce Redding Reeves; son, Tommy Reeves; sister, Evelyn Travis.

He is survived by his sons, Larry (Susan) Reeves, Westmoreland, TN and Darren (Pamela) Reeves, Hendersonville, TN; daughters, Patricia Ann Reeves, Fl, Faye (Scott) Taylor, Mount Juliet, TN; brother, Tom Ed Reeves, AR; sister, Francis Reeves, Nashville, TN; 4 grandchildren, Chasity, Ricky, Lexi and Katie Lynn; 12 great- grandchildren.

Timmy was born June 14, 1990 in Springfield to Tracy Elmore and Tammie Adcock O’Bryan. He was preceded in death grandparents, Richard and Lila Elmore and stepfather, Clint O’Bryan.

He loved anything that was nature. He loved hiking, camping, hunting and fishing. He loved his family and always was able to make people laugh. Last but not lease he loved his dog, Bella. He was of the Baptist faith.

Cheatham County Central High School class of 1953 will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Mrs. Chambliss was born on April 21, 1935 in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Walter and Louise Pardue Williams. She was a homemaker and lived her life for Jesus and was very involved in missionary work distributing Bibles in other countries. She was a member of the New Seasons Church and the Lifehouse Fellowship Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, Walter Cernel Williams; and sister, Katie Whitaker.

Age 51 of White House passed away October 23, 2019 at Vanderbilt Medical Center. She was born September 9, 1968 in Baton Rouge, LA to Edward William Henderson & Della Lurline Griffin. She worked as a registered nurse for Vanderbilt before becoming disabled. She enjoyed helping people and that was the reason that she became a nurse. She made friends with everyone she met and gave her all to everyone she tried to help. She was a second mother to many of Jared’s friends. She also loved her Canine companions, Cooper and Baxter.

Henry “Jan” Douglas, age 72, of Hendersonville and formerly of Springfield, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at Hendersonville Medical Center.

A Visitation of Remembrance was held Thursday, October 24, 2019 from 4-7pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield for all family and friends.

Mr. Douglas was born February 26, 1947 in Springfield to the late Richard Lee and Charlie Mae Hudgens Douglas. He worked in Management at HCA and liked to fish. He was a fan of Nascar and Alabama Crimson Tide football but loved his family, especially his kids and grandkids.

Mary Jane Hock Cleveland, age 75, of Nashville, passed away Monday, October 21, 2019 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

A graveside service was held Friday, October 25, 2019 at 1:30pm at the Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville. Burial followed with family and friends serving as pallbearers. No visitation was held prior to the graveside service.

Barbara Gail Heady Dixon, age 74 of Springfield, TN died Sunday October 20, 2019 at the Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville.

Funeral services were held at 2 pm on Thursday October 24, 2019 in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with James Walker officiating. Burial followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jade Dixon, Corey Mayo, Clint Mayo, Daniel Thacker, Shane Patterson and Chris Shouse serving as pallbearers. Steve Baldwin served as an honorary pallbearer. The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday October 23rd from 4 until 8 pm and again on Thursday from 10 am until the hour of service at 2 pm.

Barbara was born August 12, 1945 in Livingston, Tennessee to the late William H. Heady and Eudean Walker Heady. Her husband, Domer Gene Dixon and brother, Charles Michael Heady also preceded her in death. She was a member of Rock floral squareSprings Baptist Church and was an accomplished and well known artist who created works in charcoal, pastels and oils. Barbara loved reading and to work in her flower garden.

Surviving her are her son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Teri Dixon of Springfield; daughters and son-in-law, Kathy and Chris Dugan of Springfield and Lisa Patterson of Greenbrier, TN eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Sue Heady.

Chester D. Woodard Age 56 – On Saturday, October 12, 2019, Chester Woodard, father of two children, passed away at age 56. Chester was born on August 18, 1963 in Springfield Tennessee.

He gave his life to Christ at a young age at New Wells Grove in Barren Plains, TN. He attended East Robertson Schools and was known to be a great basketball player.

He had a passion for working and watching the Dallas Cowboys. Chester worked for Electrolux for twenty years, Johnson Electric for seven years, and many other jobs.

He was preceded in death by father, Arthur and mother, Doretha Woodard and a brother James Lee.

He is survived by four children: sons, Aaron D. Bunton of Athens, GA and DeShawn Dunn; daughters, Keyshiah Dunn and Myranda Woodard; three grandchildren, floral squareGionni Woodard of Springfield TN, Dionni Woodard and Tria Nowden. William Thomas “Billy” Jones, 92, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday October 20, 2019 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday October 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Reverend Michael Smith officiating. Interment followed in Springfield Memorial Gardens with Austin LaBorg, Mason LaBorg, Jamie LaBorg, Tim Ross, Richard Traughber, and Butch Jones serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were the McDonald’s Coffee Club. The family received friends from 12 noon until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Jones was born November 19, 1926 in Springfield to the late Ben and Mary Frances Morris Jones, Sr. He was a retired mechanic and the former owner of Springfield Auto Clinic. Mr. Jones was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a charter member of the McDonald’s Coffee Club and he loved collecting and restoring antique cars.

Mr. Fyke was born May 6, 1942 in Cedar Hill to the late Ray Garland and Lorelle Goodwin Fyke. He worked as a truck driver. Mr. Fyke loved playing the guitar, country music, playing golf and his animals.

Mr. Clinard was born January 20, 1935 in Robertson County to the late Ranel Burton and Avie Hilda Hunter Clinard. He was a member of Heads Freewill Baptist Church, where he was a deacon for many years, and was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked at Acme Boot for many years and then worked for the Cheatham County Highway Department. He was very good at working with his hands doing wood working and metal crafting. He worked for many years as a dairy farmer and then worked and retired from Electrolux. He enjoyed watching his family play sports, doing karaoke, and watching RFD TV, especially Hee Haw. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael D. Jones and two brothers, Bobby and Ray Jones.

He was a member of Owens Chapel UMC but attended Cross Plains UMC. He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing and was a member of the French Lick Rifle Club.

Age 59 of White House went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 19, 2019 at his home. He was born August 26, 1960 in Owensboro, KY to Donald Diego & Mary Ellen DeJarnette Evans. He worked as the Public Health Administrator for the State of Tennessee before his illness and had previously been employed for 15 years as the District Manager of Middle Tennessee for Cracker Barrel. He loved playing guitar and was a friend to everyone he met. He was a tremendous husband, step-father, step-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle. He made a great impression on everyone he met and his legacy of love will live on forever.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Cockrill was born October 10, 1942 in Nashville to the late Charles V. and Mary Johnston Cockrill, Sr. He worked as a Land Surveyor and was a member of the Connell Memorial Methodist Church. He was an active member of the TN KY Thresherman’s Association, the Adams Community Club and the Adams Fisherman’s Club.

In addition to his parents Mr. Cockrill is preceded in death by his brothers, Benjamin Franklin Cockrill and Charles V. Cockrill, Jr., sister, Mary Kinsbury Cockrill, and sons-in-law, Kevin Lawrence and John Morgan.

floral squareMr. Cockrill is survived by his wife, Sharon Ensley Cockrill; sons, William Christian Cockrill, Jr. of Hendersonville and Jeffrey Wall and Jonathan Wall, both of Adams; daughters, Tracy Cockrill Lawrence of Goodlettsville and Stephanie (Mark) Wall Morgan of Hendersonville; sister, Polly (Ron) Cockrill Ingram of Adams; seven grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
