(Smokey Barn News) – Depending on where you were in Springfield on Thursday, you might have thought there was a disaster someplace, there were Emergency Management Agency vehicles all over town. Thankfully there was no disaster. So why were they all here? Well, just like any other occupation, EMA likes to get together and talk shop, this time they decided to hold the meeting in Springfield.

It was the Middle Tennessee Regional Directors meeting for the Emergency Management agency. Middle Tennessee EMA Directors and Deputy Directors meet on a quarterly basis in one of the 38 counties that TEMA considers middle TN. This particular quarterly meeting, Robertson County was chosen to host the meeting. It was an honor and a first for Robertson County.

Douglas.

The meeting gives EMA leadership the opportunity to look at new policies and procedures out of headquarters in Nashville. This time CSX Rail executives discussed some of their issues followed by the Tennessee Regulatory Authority.

Robertson County Mayor Howard Bradley, Robertson County Sheriff Bill Holt and Springfield Mayor Billy Paul Carneal were also invited to help kick off the conference with a few words.

One of the topics discussed is something that has been making headlines all over the world, drones. The usefulness of drone technology has not escaped the eye of EMA and they are already using them to save lives, such as in search and rescue operations. Team Leader and drone pilot, Clint Derryberry with Maury County Emergency Management Agency made a presentation on how his team uses Drones.

Emergency Management agency falls under the watchful eye of the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. The local EMA’s fall under the watchful eye of county mayors,” Douglas said. “The job of EMA, simply put, is to acquire whatever emergency services are needed, law enforcement, fire, public works, utilities, we serve them all.”

Smokey Barn News has covered many stories that involved EMA services and support. Below are a few links to stories that will help you understand the scope of what they do.
