SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) – A father and son from Bowling Green KY were transported to area hospitals in critical condition Saturday after their Ford Fiesta collided nearly head-on with another vehicle in Springfield. The accident occurred at the intersection of Memorial Blvd/431 and Hwy 41 near the gravel rock quarry just before 2:oopm. (Location of wreck)

The father, Henry King, 70, and his 37 year old son Billy King, both from Bowling Green KY, were both listed in critical condition after the accident but have improved greatly as the day has progressed, according to Springfield police Saturday evening. The driver of the Ford Mustang, Skylar Mantlo, 18, from Cedar Hill, did not sustain any serious injuries, police said.

The  son was transported via EMS ground to Northcrest Medical Center in Springfield and then Lifeflighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. The father was transported via EMS  ground to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Springfield police are still actively investigating the accident but preliminarily told Smokey Barn News  that the Ford Fiesta was heading south into Springfield on Memorial Blvd  and the Ford Mustang was heading north. The collision occurred when the Ford Mustang attempted a left turn onto Hwy 41. Police are investigating who had the right-of-way.

Police are still investigating the cause of the accident but they did say that drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the accident. If anyone witnessed the accident they are encouraged to contact Springfield Police at 615-384-8422.
