FREE Robertson County Flu Clinic Set For Nov. 9
The Robertson County Health Department is offering flu vaccines at no charge to the community during a special “FightFluTN” vaccination event November 19 from 2-6PM at The Center located at 401 N. Main Street, Springfield. This free community event is open at any Robertson County resident with or without insurance. United Way will also be onsite providing light refreshments and community resources.
“Getting a flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself, your family and others from the flu and help keep our community healthy,” said Interim Robertson County Health Department Director Sanjana Stamm. ”The flu can make you very sick, keep you away from work, school and other activities, put you in the hospital or even take your life. We urge everyone in Robertson County who has not received a flu shot yet to get one now, and this event is a great time to do it.”
The Robertson County Health Department will provide flu shots November 19 at no cost to anyone who wishes to receive one at The Center, located at 401 N. Main Street, Springfield from 2pm to 6pm.
Seasonal influenza activity is spreading in Robertson County and across Tennessee and is expected to continue for months, so it’s important for anyone over six months of age who hasn’t had a flu shot this flu season to get one now. The flu vaccine is especially important for infants, young children, pregnant women, adults over age 50 and those with chronic medical conditions. The flu shot remains the best protection against influenza.

Coach Mettler Honored At Golf Charity, $25K Raised For ALS Research
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The 447 Foundation held its 2nd annual Annihilate ALS Charity Golf Scramble at The Legacy Golf Course in Springfield, TN on Oct. 11, 2019.
The event, which was attended by more than 80 golfers and featured various prizes and awards, raised more than $25,000 for the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI). This year’s event featured dedications on each hole, with stories of inspiration shared by those who have been diagnosed with ALS.

(Springfield, TN) The Open Door Pregnancy Center chili challenge fundraiser was a BIG Hit from supporters throughout the community Monday evening.
“We were blown away by the support of everyone involved with this year’s Chili Challenge! We believe it was our best one yet! We ended up having 59 different chili’s/soups! A giant thank you to all of our sponsors, all of the participants, and all judges and volunteers! Thank you to everyone who came and made this night a huge success while supporting the ministry of Open Door Pregnancy Center!” Open Door Pregnancy Center.

There will be a Drug Take Back, this Saturday October 26th, from 10:00am – 2:00pm at the CVS Parking Lot in Springfield, TN. Please bring any unused medications to have them disposed of properly and without any questions asked.
If you cannot make it to our location on that day, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office has permanent disposal boxes located in the Sheriff’s Office and Detention Center main lobbies.

(Greenbrier, TN) College St Area Proposed Town Square Commons
The heart of Greenbrier may be on its way to getting an incredible facelift. Parked on the corner of Hwy 41 and College St., and directly across from the site of the new McDonald’s, it’s called “Town Square Commons.”
Town Square Commons is the brainchild of Jody Dorris and Brandon Frank. Both men are local and share a love for the community. – The project focuses on historic preservation, repurposing existing space, and bringing new businesses to the community.
The project is both restoration/modification. According to Brandon and Jody, the project does call for the buildings to be modified for function and safety but the plan is to preserve as much of Greenbrier’s history as possible.
Over the last few quarters, Greenbrier has been in the midst of a growth spurt with the addition of two fast-food chains, a donut shop, and a coffee shop. This project seems like a logical fit considering it sits in the middle of downtown. Smokey Barn News will follow the project as it makes its way through the city and county process.

Orlinda City Manager And Dog Escape Home Fire
ORLINDA TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Orlinda City Manager Kevin Breeding was sound asleep when the faint sound of a smoke detector buzzing woke him up and likely saved his life.
Breeding got up and opened the door to his bedroom and was hit by a wall of smoke. According to Breeding, the smoke, from the ceiling, came down to his chest. He wasted no time, he grabbed a cell phone, the dog and ran out the door without even stopping to shoes or a jacket. As Breeding ran for the exit he could see the kitchen was engulfed in a fireball. The Portland Parks Dept.will have Trick or Treat in the Park at Richland on Thursday, October 31, 2019 from 5-7pm. This event is FREE!! Businesses, churches, clubs and organizations are encouraged to set up and hand out treats to all of the children. The parks will be giving a free shelter rental for the best decorated space according to decorations and character dressing.

Letter To the Editor
It upsets me when I hear people, even government leaders say that “America is a Democracy”. Here again is a situation when a lie is repeated often enough, people simply begin believing it.
Slowly over the years the United States of America has been mistakenly designated a democracy, thanks to the mis-education of American history.
America’s founders knew what a corrupt system of government democracy was and did everything to ensure our country would never become one.
Our nation was founded as a constitutionally limited republic. This was common knowledge several generations ago. Remember the Pledge of Allegiance: “and to the Republic for which it stands”? The Founding Fathers were concerned with liberty, not democracy. The word democracy does not appear in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution. On the contrary, Article IV, section 4 of the Constitution is quite clear: “The United States shall guarantee to every state in this Union a Republican Form of Government”
In a Republic, the law is supreme, and all men, including its leaders, are subject to it. Founding father John Adams said this: “A republic is based off an ‘Empire of Laws, and not of men.’”
A constitutionally limited republic emphasizes the rights of the individual. It is not set up to abuse your God given unalienable rights.
As another presidential election comes upon us, the Electoral College debate has been rekindled.
Alerted to the dangers of majority rule, the Constitution’s framers inserted several anti-majority rules. One is that the election of the president is not done by a majority popular vote, but by the Electoral College.
The Electoral College method of choosing the president guarantees that each state, whether large or small in area or population, has some voice in selecting the nation’s leaders. Were we to choose the president under a popular vote, the outcome of presidential races would always be decided by a few highly populated states.
The electoral college is a buffer that allows all states to have a voice. If we remove the role of the states in electing the president, our country would no longer truly be the United States of America.

(Clarksville, TN) The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate Lieutenant Cliff Smith on his retirement after 45 years of public service.
Smith started working for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in 1974 as an Undercover Narcotics Investigator. Since then he has worked as a Jail Deputy, Patrol Deputy, and Investigator.
In 1988 he was promoted to Criminal Investigations Sergeant. In 2011 he was promoted to Criminal Investigations Lieutenant. In 2012 he transferred to Patrol and in 2014 transferred to the School Resource Division.
He established the Bomb Squad in 1981 and served as its Commander for 31 years. He also served as a U.S. Marshals Special Deputy from 2003-2014.
Smith received eight letters of commendation and was recognized as Criminal Investigator of the Year during his service. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
During his retirement celebration, Sheriff Fuson presented Smith with his retirement badge, service weapon, plaque, coin, and flag flown in his honor. Mayor Durrett read a Proclamation recognizing Smith for his service to Montgomery County.

Cooperation between Law Enforcement agencies in key in the safety and security of the citizen they serve. Chief Blumel would like to thank Elkton’s Chief Robert Toombs, Trenton’s Chief Henry Hamlett and especially Todd County Sheriff Tracy White for coordinating and hosting this joint firearm training exercise. This event really stressed real-world shooting scenarios, firearm safety and discipline, but more importantly, camaraderie with the Law Enforcement professionals of Todd County. Logan County Sheriff’s Office Helps With Lunch
Sheriff Stratton and Deputy Toomey helped serve lunch to the students at Auburn Elementary on Wednesday. They enjoyed working with staff and interacting with the students as they came through the lines.
On Thursday, Sheriff Stratton and Sgt. Shaun Embry served students at Chandlers Elementary school lunch. They both have commented on how well behaved the students were during lunch today. Way to go, Bears!
