Ridgetop Home Invasion Suspect In Custody After Search
RIDGETOP TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Police say they have a home invasion suspect in custody after several hours of searching Thursday morning. According to Ridgetop Police Chief Bryan Morris, Greenbrier police, Ridgetop Police, the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol were in pursuit of the suspect in the area of Betts Rd and Smiley Hollow Rd for a good part of the morning.
The suspect, believed to be from a home invasion that took place Thursday morning on Kenwood Dr., was described as a white male, 5′ 9″, short hair and wearing a navy blue hoodie and jeans. Police believed he was armed. Residents were told not to approach him if they saw him.
Police believe the incident started in Springfield earlier in the morning when a truck from a construction crew staying at the Springfield Inn was reported stolen. Springfield police have yet to charge the suspect for the theft of the truck, citing an ongoing investigation.
The owner told police that the truck was last seen around 10:pm Wednesday night. The truck was not reported missing until around 7:am the next morning when the owner noticed it was gone, according to Springfield Police.
Police say the suspect then made his way to Ridgetop where he was spotted speeding by police. The suspect did stop for police on Old Springfield Highway but then fled on foot and was able to escape. The suspect then made his way to a home on Kenwood Dr. in Ridgetop and kicked the door open, waking up a women inside, Morris said.
After realizing the home was not empty the suspect fled on foot again. The Tennessee Highway Patrol brought in one of their helicopter to assist in the search from the air. Finally a tip led officers to the Shell gas station in Ridgetop where Greenbrier and Ridgetop officers apprehended the suspect.
According to police, the suspect resisted and even spit in the face of one of the officers who is presently at a local hospital. The suspect will be required to have a blood test.
No gun or weapon was found when the suspect was taken into custody.
According to police, Bobby Wilson, 39, of Springfield will be charged with aggravated assault X two, assault, aggravated burglary, vandalism, resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and misdemeanor fleeing. Total bond, $116,000.
