Smokey’s Weather Report: Cold Front To Bring Storms

ROBERTSON COUNTY: (Smokey Barn News) AN APPROACHING COLD FRONT WILL BRING AN INCREASING CHANCE FOR THUNDERSTORMS WEDNESDAY morning and afternoon THROUGH THURSDAY. A FEW OF THESE STORMS COULD BE STRONG TO BRIEFLY SEVERE. LOCALIZED DAMAGING WIND GUSTS WILL BE THE MAIN CONCERN.

Rain and wind likely. Then starting again about 3:00 4:00 in the morning with rain and thunderstorms until about 9:00 a.m. Then more thunder storms and rain tomorrow afternoon. For those areas that don’t get the rain look for a high heat index of over 100. Oppressive heat index values to continue through Wednesday…

High temperatures in the 90s along with high humidity levels will lead to oppressive heat over the next few days. Heat index values will rise into the 100 to 105 degree range each afternoon through Wednesday. Please take proper precautions to guard against heat-related illnesses if outdoors for extended periods of time.

Drink plenty of non-alcoholic fluids and seek shade whenever possible. Never leave pets or children unattended inside vehicles as interior temperatures can soar quickly as high as 140 degrees. Remember… beat the heat… check the backseat.

PowerTuesday’s storms put about 1700 CEMC customers in the dark. The outages were scattered throughout the area and not likely due to a single cause other than the weather. Portland was the hardiest hit with about 1300 customers without power by 6:30pm.

No word on how long the outages will last but as of 9:26pm about 1200 people were still without power.

Though we had no reports of heavy damage we did have a report of a small portion of a roof on an industrial building owned by Lowe’s collapse in White House but there were no injuries reported and the damage was localized to one part of the structure. It was a very small section of the roof but before employees can return the building will need to be inspected and repairs made. (Location of building)

We also had a reports of trees and power lines down.
