As the Grand Prize winner, the SHS band will receive a $2,000 check from WKRN and may be featured on Channel 2 News during their morning show for a second performance.

Band Director Jacob Maurer said he is thrilled with the outcome of the competition, and grateful to the community for registering their vote.

“The Springfield High School Band would like to thank the entire community for the incredible support that it took to win the WKRN March 2 the Top competition,” he said after hearing the news.

“The students, faculty, administration, and members of the community have shown how much they want to see the SHS Band continue to make historic gains in quantity and quality by voting us the winners of this exclusive contest. The prize money will go a long way in purchasing new uniforms for the band as we continue to grow. The future of the program is brighter than ever and thanks to the great encouragement and support we have received; we can reach our goals even faster.”

Voters were able to vote from mid-August until Friday, Oct. 28, when voting ended and votes were counted. Out of the total votes cast for the nine competing schools, SHS registered 24.83% of the total, edging out second-place finisher Siegel High School’s 24.02% tally. Antioch High School rounded out the top three winners with 22.14% of the total votes cast.

Tremendous growth and success have created a unique problem for the Springfield High School Marching Band, and you might be able to help.

According to the Band Director, Jacob Maurer, the band is doing great, even as it takes on an influx of new students, more then ever before. Most recently the band was invited to play for WKRN Channel 2 in Nashville as well as many other venues that include invitations to play at the state level.

So what’s the problem? The band has literally outgrown their uniforms, both in age and quantity. They just don’t have enough to go around so some students have to wear uniforms that just don’t match the beautiful music they’re making.

With this problem in mind, the band decided to reach out to the community to see if they would be willing to help out with donations to cover new uniforms and perhaps even a few needed instruments. The schools budget will only go so far, meaning it’s up to the band to find ways to come up with the money themselves.

If you would like to help the band look as wonderful as they sound, they have set up a Go-Fund-Me-Page. DONATE HERE Be sure to listen to a special performance at the end of our video report the band preformed just for you.
