Springfield Man Struck, Killed By Vehicle Monday Evening

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A Springfield man has died after being struck by a vehicle on 5th Monday evening.

The accident occurred just before 8 pm on 5th Ave near Kinneys Rd. MAP According to Assistant Chief Russell Gupton with Robertson County Emergency Medical Service, “One male patient, now identified as Gary Barrow age 62 of Springfield, was transported to Northcrest Medical Center and was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.”

A witness told Smokey Barn News that the impact was severe and tossed Barrow some 30 feet into the air.

The Springfield Police Department will be leading the investigation with assistance from the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

According to witnesses Barrow was crossing 5th Ave in a partially lit area and was struck by a passing vehicle driven by an 18-year-old female driver. From what was apparent at the scene, driver impairment did not appear to be involved.

A neighbor told Smokey Barn News that the traffic moves too fast there and she believes the city should do something to slow down passing vehicles.

Another neighbor said, being near the Korner Market, foot traffic in the area is high but with low lighting and no sidewalks people have a tendency to walk near or in the roadway.

According to Springfield Police, “On Monday, September 3, 2018, approximately 7:49 PM officers were dispatched to 1010 5th Avenue West in reference to a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived Gary Barrow had been struck by a 2002 Ford Taurus. He was transported by ambulance to Northcrest Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

“The driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash and will not face any charges. This crash is still pending further investigation at this time”

The thoughts and prayers of the staff at Smokey Barn News are with the victim’s family and friends as they face the days ahead.
