Felts, a Christian, was the director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Springfield. He was a national director for Dixie Youth Baseball Organization and coached youth baseball for over 30 years, influencing generations of youth in Springfield. Tony led the 9-10 Dixie Youth Tennessee All-Stars to victory winning state in 2014.

Smokey Barn News spoke to Springfield Mayor Billy Paul Carneal about Felts passing Wednesday, “Tony Felts did an outstanding job as director of Parks and recreation. His job covered operations at the center and all the events that are held there, looking after the parks and programming and scheduling of activities and events.

“He was a success at coaching our young people going on to state. He had a way of dealing with people that was above average, a dedicated employee, loyal, people liked him and he fought the cancer for so long, so valiantly and stayed after it. To show you the kind of person he was, the last conversation I had with him he talked about days he just wasn’t able to come to work,  he wanted to be there because it was his life and he wanted to do it well.

“We all admired him and appreciated him and it is certainly a loss for the city and the people of Springfield and Robertson County. We wish his family well and our prayers are with them at this time and the days ahead, there is going to be a great void.”

Funeral services for Felts will be conducted Friday, November 6, 2015 at 12 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 3-8 pm and again on Friday from 9 am until the hour of service at 12 pm.

The family request that if so desired, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. All donations may be sent in care of the Robertson County Funeral Home.
