Springfield Police Investigating Kidnapping Phone Scams

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – The Springfield Police Department is currently investigating phone scams that involve a caller alleging that a family member has been kidnapped. At least two Springfield residents have been targeted with these fake calls in the past few weeks.

According to Springfield Police, in one of the calls, the victims received a phone call from a person with a Spanish accent claiming that their daughter had been kidnapped.

The caller demanded $5,000.00 or she would be killed. At one point during the conversation the caller stated that they would be willing to accept $125.00. The victims contacted their daughter and learned that she was safe and had not been kidnapped.

In another call, a subject with a heavy accent called a victim and claimed to have kidnapped his wife and was going to cut off one of her body parts unless he brought some money to his location. The victim contacted his wife and learned that she (again) was safe and had not been kidnapped.

Springfield Police advise if you receive one of these calls, attempt to slow the conversation down, ask for more time, and contact the alleged victim and police.

Anyone with information regarding any of these incidents is encouraged to contact Springfield Police at 615-384-8422 or Crime Stoppers at 615-382-3799.

All information is anonymous.
