Stabbing At Springfield Walmart, Victim Lifeflighted To Vanderbilt
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn news) – Shortly after 2 pm Monday, there was a Stabbing in the Walmart parking lot in Springfield. Two men were involved in the altercation, both were transported to Northcrest and one later to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. One of the men was stabbed in the upper left chest, according to police. Walmart security cameras captured the incident and there were several witnesses. Springfield Police have recovered a gun and a knife at the scene.

According to Springfield Chief David Thompson, stabbing victim Joshua Crowder is expected to recover from his injuries. At this phase in the police investigation, and after talking to witnesses, the two men involved in the alteration and family members, police indicate that the two men (Joshua Crowder 32 and Harold Coats 45) set up a meeting at the Walmart Parking lot in Springfield via text messaging.
According to Chief Thompson, Crowder approached Coats in the Walmart parking lot while on a Harley-Davidson motorcycle. As Crowder approached on the bike he had a pistol out and pointed at Coats, Thompson said. As Crowder approached, Coats grabbed Crowder’s arm and the men began to fight on the ground. According to Thompson, Crowder hit Coats on the head with the gun and Coats then pulled out a knife and stabbed Crowder. According to the investigation, Crowder had allegedly been making advances towards Coats’ wife. According to Chief Thompson, Coats became aware of the alleged advances and things escalated.
Chief Thompson said that at this point no charges have been filed but police are looking at all the facts and that may change in a few days.

According to Springfield Police Chief David Thompson, Joshua Crowder was released from the hospital. Chief Thompson indicated that Joshua Crowder could be facing both state and/or federal charges. Harold Coats actions will likely be classified as self-defense thus clearing him of any charges in the altercation, according to Thompson.

The guy who had the gun is a known convicted felon, wonder why no charges have still not been filed

I just want to say thank you very, very much to the man that helped the stabbing victim. He helped to save his life, cause it nicked his main valve to his heart & he might have bleed out if he had not calmed him down & took care of him. My family might have had a very different outcome to a bad situation. Again I want to thank him!!!
