Transformer Misses Driver By Inches In Holiday Weekend Crash

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – An impact strong enough to snap a utility pole in two also sent a transformer flying in a holiday weekend crash that could have easily taken the drivers life, officials said.

After breaking free from the utility pole, the unusual crash tossed the transformer into the air. When it came down it landed right-side up on the hood of the vehicle coming through the windshield and partway onto the dash. I looked as though someone had carefully placed the transformer there deliberately.

According to Electric Utility Director Robert Gardner with Springfield Electric,  if the 250 to 300 lbs transformer had landed on the cockpit area of the vehicle it could have easily killed the driver but when firefighters arrived the driver was already out of the vehicle walking around. The driver did sustain minor injuries, however, medical treatment or transport was declined.

The crash occurred on Memorial Blvd around 9:30 am on July 4th directly in front of Torino’s Greek & Italian Restaurant. MAP

As far as a cause of the crash, we have reached out to Springfield Police.

No other injuries were reported.
