Weather Report: It’s Warm

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Eat your heart out California, it’s warm in Robertson County. So just how weird is it? Smokey has reached out to several sources and they all say the same thing, it’s a little weird.

Jeff Morrow, staff meteorologist over at our news partner WKRN News 2, says Nashville is sitting at 74 degrees. “If we hit 75 that will tie the record,” Morrow said. Morrow also said the highest recorded temperature for any day in December in Nashville is 79 degrees. Morrow said there’s a chance Nashville will break a record today.

So what’s causing it?

According to Smokey’s meteorologist Bill Jones,  weather temperature extremes have been kept and recorded by data of NOAA since 1910. In most cases, extreme events are defined as lying in the outermost (“most unusual”) 10 percent of a place’s history. The recorded temperatures are available at the national and regional levels.

We think of the temperature extremes as it affects us locally but other near by cities may not have the exact same weather as we do. Our November was warmer than normal in the eastern two-thirds of the nation and cooler than normal in the west.

Last November it was cold and snowy culminating in a historic lake-effect snow (weather coming off the Great Lakes going further south than normal)  in Buffalo in November. Southern and central Fla. had one of the warmest Novembers on record. If we hit 76 degrees today it will be a 100 year record.

An entire menu of winter weather ( snow, sleet and freezing rain) had made an appearance and impact in the last 10 days of November. So is El Nino to blame for Climate Change or what?

The last big El Nino was in 1997-1998. Though we are still early in the season, our 2015-16 El Nino is the largest one seen so far, however, its effect isn’t holding up to expectations. Time will tell as the season plays out.

Of course, “Global Warming” (now called Climate Change) is occurring but is it man-made or just one of the many cycles of weather?

There are many predictions from many sources all who are well qualified weather scientists and forecasters but no one can say for sure what is going to occur in the future. El Nino is the big factor at this moment. We will see how it pans out. An interesting site for long range predictions is: WeatherPlanner.com
