Who Will Be Springfield’s Next Police Chief? Two Candidates Emerge
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Two internal candidates with the Springfield Police Department have tossed their hats into the ring for the Springfield Police Chief role left vacant by former Chief David Thompson who recently retired, MORE according to Springfield’s new Assistant City Manager Ryan Martin.
Interim Police Chief Danny Johnson has not applied for the position.
Both candidates have lengthy backgrounds in law enforcement and we have added their bios below. City Manager Gina Holt will make the decision after a review of all candidates. If additional candidates surface we will bring it to you.
Captain Jason Head:

• Knox County Sheriffs Department, Corrections Officer
• Clarksville Police Department, Patrol and Investigations
• United Nations Mission in Kosovo, Chief of Regional Investigations
• Springfield Police Department (11 years) (Total Law Enforcement 22 years)
• Patrol (Officer, Corporal, Sergeant)
• Bicycle Patrol
• Lieutenant over Patrol
• SWAT Team Commander
• Captain over Patrol
• Captain over Administration
• Robertson County Recovery Court Board Member
• Tennessee Association of Recovery Courts (TARCP), State Board Member as LE Representative
• Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Bethel University

Captain Madison Burnett:
- 27 year veteran of Springfield Police Department
- Moved to Springfield in 1990 after graduation from MTSU with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and being hired by Springfield PD
- Served as Patrol Officer from October 1990 until February 1993 when promoted to Detective
- Served as Detective for 23 plus years investigating various crimes to include homicide, robbery, burglary and other crimes
- Graduate of various Police schools to include the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico Virginia, focused on Police Management
- Promoted to Captain in 2017 where I serve as the supervisor of the Patrol Division
- Enlisted in the Tennessee Army National Guard in April 1982
- Rose to the Rank of Sergeant and was selected for Officer Candidate School
- Received a Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in Armor
- Served in various positions to include the Commander of the local Guard Unit
- Served for five years as Squadron Commander for 2nd Squadron 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment which has 850 Soldier with nine Armories from East to Middle Tennessee
- Served two tours of duty in Iraq
- Graduate of the Combined Arms Service School
- Graduate of the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth Kansas
- Currently hold the rank of Colonel and command the 230th Digital Liaison Detachment in Smyrna TN. This position will finish a 36 plus year career in the Tennessee Army National Guard
