With Its One Officer On Leave, Ridgetop Citizens Confront City Leaders
RIDGETOP TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – It was another strong turn out (statistically) for Ridgetop’s Board of Mayor and Alderman meeting Tuesday evening.
Ridgetop citizens sat patiently as city leaders made their way through the night’s agenda but things heated up as the opportunity for citizens to speak arrived.
The meeting was not as crowded as previous meetings but the message was the same, reinstate the police force. One by one, citizens stepped forward to express their feelings about the board’s previous decisions concerning the budget and most offered city leaders ideas on how to fund it’s police force full-time, something city leaders say the budget can’t handle.
At the moment, Ridgetop has no police force because its one-and-only officer is on leave. During Ridgetop’s last city meeting, the board voted to retain just one officer. That was a step up from the previous meeting in which the board voted to close the police department altogether, however, that officer, Chief Morris, sent the board a letter last week stating that he is now officially on leave. A cause for Chief Morris’ absence was not released. So at the moment, Ridgetop police-related calls are being handled by the Robertson County Sheriff’s Office and other adjacent agencies.
