Springfield, TN: Stonegate Subdivision Burglaries – Suspect In Custody

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Wednesday afternoon police received a call from a home located on Sam Davis Drive in the Stonegate subdivision in Springfield. A woman had just returned home and heard another door close inside the house. It was someone exiting the home through another door. The woman immediately called 911.

Police quickly arrived and began an investigation.  According to Detective Rickie Morris with the Springfield Police Department, a next door neighbor (who was a caregiver) not only saw the suspect but actually spoke to him.

The neighbor was able to provide police with a good description of the suspect.  He was described as a young white male with a slender build, about 5 feet 7 inches tall in his late teens early 20’s wearing red clothing, a red cap, red shirt, red shorts with a black stripe down the sides.

The neighbor told police detectives that the suspect approached the home where she works from the rear so she stepped out the back door and ask him what he wanted.

The neighbor told the suspect that she sympathized with him but had no work for him and he then walked behind the neighbors house and out of sight.

About 15 to 20 minutes later is when the neighbor arrived home, heard the front door close and called police. The victim told police that jewelry was missing as well as other items that could be put in a pocket or backpack.

According to Police, someone entered the home through a very small window at the rear of her home that was left cracked open. Only a small person could have made it through that opening, police said.

The detective working the case remembered a suspect with a similar MO from a case some years back, the suspect also fit the physical description perfectly.

He would go up to houses and knock, if no one answered he’d try to enter and take what he could carry.  If someone was home, he would say he was looking for yard work,” according to Detective Morris..

Police showed a recent photo of the suspect to the witness in a lineup of seven, all were wearing ball caps. The neighbor was able to quickly pick out the suspect in the lineup, according to Morris.

Wright  denied involvement in the burglary but did confirm the conversation with the neighbor which police say, “Puts him at the scene of the crime.”

Police told Smokey Barn news that they have additional evidence in the case but would not be releasing it pending the ongoing investigation.

Police say they believe that Wright may be responsible for other break-ins in the same area over the last couple of months and he could be facing additional charges.

Wright is currently being held at the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield.

All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
