winterize tire ad 300According to local birder Tony Lance of Coopertown, who took the above photo this morning, “It’s always nice to see our national bird, a sight that used to be quite rare in this area.” Bald Eagles have made a remarkable comeback in Tennessee and individuals can be seen in Robertson County year round. Tony says, he usually gets three or four sightings a year in this area. Although there are now nests about every seven miles on the Cumberland River, he’s unaware of any nests in Robertson County, though he wouldn’t be at all surprised if someone found one.

Tony Lance is a lifelong birder and volunteers as a bird monitor here in Robertson County. Tony sends the results to the state ornithologist (pronunciation: orni·tholo·gist). To do that, he drives around the area, usually on Sunday mornings, and he takes notes of what he sees. Tony is currently a board member of the Tennessee Ornithological Society. He has also done a few freelance articles about birds for Tennessee Conservationist magazine.
