Downton Abbey Comes To Robertson County

IMG_5246Downton Abbey (or a piece of it anyway) arrived in Springfield this week. If you haven’t heard of it, Downton Abbey is a British period television series devised by Julian Fellowes and co-produced by Carnival Films and Masterpiece. The series first aired in the United Kingdom and Ireland in 2010, then on PBS in the United States in 2011 and it quickly became a hit. Four series have been made to-date and a fifth is planned for 2014.

The series has become so popular that “Downton Abbey” has become an internet search term, it’s used to describe anything with a little age and a lot of class.   Needless to say, the merchandise spawn from the show has become very popular too, the only problem is that it’s hard to find.  Sandy Burdett Ramsey, the owner of Burdett’s Tea Shop & Trading Company in downtown Springfield is a big fan of the show too. To those of you who know Sandy or that have ever been to Burdett’s Tea Shop in downtown Springfield it’s easy to understand the connection.  One could theorize that the look of the series  was based on Burdett’s.

Sandy decided to make the Downton Abbey merchandise available at Burdett’s and Smokey was invited to come and see the beautiful display. The Downton Abbey merchandise is so close to the look of Burdett’s that it (as you can see in the slideshow below) blends right into the decor. It’s absolutely a perfect match with a charming lady as your host, so go on by and say, “take me to Downton Abbey”

Burdett’s is located on the corner of 7th Ave and Main St in Downtown Springfield. For more on Burdett’s follow this link to their Facebook page. Burdett’s Tea Shop & Trading Company. For more information on .
