Widespread Outage Hits Facebook/Instagram

UPDATE: Facebook appears to be back. Here’s a message they posted on their Facebook account. “And we’re back đź’™ So sorry for those who were unable to access Facebook earlier today.”

We’re still waiting for a statement from Facebook as to the cause of the outage.

ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Did you get logged out of Facebook? You’re not alone.  Down Detector has received 505,745 reports that Facebook is down this morning. We also have reports that Instagram is also affected.

After being logged out your password will not work and you will not receive a verification code. We’re not seeing an official statement from Facebook but they are likely hard at work going after a fix.

There’s no word on how many users are affected but in the short time it took for Smokey Barn News to write this brief article the number of people reporting on Down Detector went from 505,745 to 538,942.

People are reporting fears that their accounts have been hacked but is indeed a FaceBook outage. The last time this happened Facebook reportedly just rebooted the system the issue resolved itself. Facebook is bigger and more complicated now so that approach may not work but rebooting is the first thing most people think of whenever there is any kind of a device issue.

The last major outage Smokey Barn News reported was back in 2018. In that outage, almost 50 million accounts were reportedly affected. FULL STORY

“We’re aware people are having trouble accessing our services. We are working on this now,” said Meta spokesperson Andy Stone on X.

One thing to consider, once Facebook is back online, scammers will likely try to exploit the issue so be wary of messages that don’t seem right. If you have any doubts, check online for answers.

Smokey Barn News will continue to monitor the situation. As soon as we have more information, we will bring it to you.
