Obituary for Bernice Clinard Powell

Bernice Clinard Powell, age 92 of Adams, TN, died Tuesday August 6, 2019 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield, TN.

Funeral services were held at 11 am on Friday August 9, 2019 in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Rev. Tyler Estep officiating. Burial followed in Bellwood Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday August 8th from 4 pm till 8 pm and again on Friday from 10 am until the service time at 11.

Mrs. Powell was born April 4, 1927 to the late Herman Floyd and Georgia Bernice Jacobs Clinard. Her, husbands, Audie Lee Brooksher and Leo Clyde Powell, brothers, Roy, Gaither, Marvin, Herbert and Carl Clinard and her sisters, Thelma Powers and Mary Beams also preceded her in death. She was a long-standing member of Red River Baptist Church and was a homemaker. Bernice loved cooking, especially for others, gardening and fishing, but what brought her the most joy was her life spent taking care of her family and being of service to others.

floral squareMrs. Powell is survived by her nephew Michael (Shelia) Clinard of Adams, TN and her niece, Lisa (Joe) Hill of Maryville, TN and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Obituary for Nancye Keach Scoggin

Nancye Keach Scoggin, daughter of Robert Earl Morris and Cassie Keach Morris and wife of John William Scoggin, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the age of 93.

Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Oakhurst chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Dr. Jim McAfee officiating. Burial followed in the Williams Chapel Cemetery with John Scoggin, James Scoggin, Jason Salzer, Robert Peterson, William Scoggin, and Brian Cope serving as pallbearers.

Nancye was a proud Army Wife, Sister, Devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Loyal Friend. Those lucky enough to know her, found that she was strong, tough, ornery, funny and most of all, loving. She was a homemaker, made awesome fried chicken and volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at NorthCrest Medical Center. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, John William Scoggin; her sons, Robert Denton “Bob” Scoggin of Clarksville, Thomas Gilbert “Tom” Scoggin of Springfield, and her sisters; Margaret Fletcher, Edna Savage, Betty Moore, and Bertha Draper

Carolyn DillardCarolyn Holmes Dillard, age 62, of Orlinda, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2019 at Centennial Medical Center.

Visitation will be Saturday, August 10, 2019 at the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield from 4-8pm and on Sunday, August 11, 2019 from 12pm until the hour of the Funeral Service at 2pm. Mrs. Dillard’s remains will be cremated following the Funeral Service.

Mrs. Dillard was born February 13, 1957 in Springfield to the late Robert and Helen Roe Holmes. She worked as the District Conservationist for the National Resources Conservation Service for more than 30 years until her retirement and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Rippy was born March 14, 1934 in Springfield to the late Clarence and Katherine Wildmone Cox. She was a homemaker and member of the Owens Chapel United Methodist Church. She loved being outdoors and spent most of her time mowing and working with her flowers. She loved cooking and going to yard sales, but she dearly loved her family.

Mrs. Mitchell was born on November 23, 1937 in Chapmansboro, Tennessee to the late Johnny Winfield and Martha Lorene Watts Balthrop. She retired from the City of Indianapolis with over 30 years of service as a city clerk. Working in her flowers was a big enjoyment for her. She was of the Baptist faith.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bob” Mitchell; son DeWayne Elliott; brother, Wendell Balthrop; sisters Judy Balthrop, Barbara Jones, Janice Douglas and Marcia Jean Morris.

She is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Lowell Swift; husband of 75-1/2 years, Anderson Tate; step-brother, Billy Joe Swift; daughter-in-law, Patricia Tate. She is survived by her son, Wayne (Christeene) Tate; step-brother, Charles Swift; grandsons, Bob (April) Tate, Don (Raychel) Enck, Eric (Amy) Enck; great-grandsons, Alex Tate, Caleb Enck; great-granddaughters, Carla Tate, Caitlin Enck & Chloe Amrheim; great-great grandsons, Brayden, Landen and Cayson McCormack.

Richard Branson Sr.Richard Russell Branson, age 87, of Coopertown, Tennessee, (formerly of St. Louis, MO and Marion, IL) passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View, Tennessee on Sunday, August 4th, at 4:00 p.m. with his nephew William Alfred Cooper, Jr. “B.J” officiating.

Burial will be on Tuesday, August 6th, at 11:00 a.m. at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville, TN. 37221. Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Goodman, Harold Uhls, Buddy Cooper, Dylan Uhls, Trey Branson, Chase Goodman, Reid Branson, and Blue Goodman.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, August 4th from 2:00 p.m. until the hour of service at 4:00 p.m.

Richard accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in February, 1973. He endeavored to follow Him closely in every aspect of his life. He happily served his local congregation in teaching, music, and wherever he was needed. Most recently, during his illness, he called the Jimmy Swaggart Ministries his church family.

Richard loved his life…God…and his family. He loved all things outdoors; flower gardening, golf, fishing, Purple Martins, and neighbors stopping by. He fell in love with St. Louis Blues hockey during their inaugural season in 1967. He was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and any sport involving his family. He enjoyed food- all types of food- especially anything his wife made for him. He volunteered at the Lighthouse Homeless Shelter in Marion, IL.

Richard was born on March 7, 1932, in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Charles W. and Josephine Meegan Branson. He graduated from Normandy High School in 1950 and went to work immediately at Emerson Electric. He was drafted in the Army, serving from January 24, 1952 to January 7, 1954. He trained in Enlisted Intelligence and served as a photo interpreter in the Korean War. After being discharged he returned to Emerson Electric. After working on batteries there, he joined the Elmer H. Boyer Association (which later became Branson Industrial Products) and sold all types of batteries, including switch gear and control, UPS, mining, diesel starting, fork truck, and other industrial products. He retired from Reaco Battery Company in Johnson City, IL in March 1999. He was blessed with a 20-year retirement. During his retirement, his favorite question was “What do you want to do today?”

Richard married Jennifer Cooper on August 4, 1973 and had a blessed marriage and family. They would have been married for 46 years on August 4, 2019. His funeral is on their wedding anniversary and will celebrate his life.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, and four sisters.

Mr. Rager was born October 10, 1955 in Gary, Indiana to the late Robert T. and Virgie Frances Leach Rager. He was a painter and loved music and playing his guitar, and he was a Christian.

Robert Lee Hamlett SrAge 83 of White House passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at his home. He was born December 5, 1935 in Goodlettsville, TN to Nathan and Viola Hamlett. He was retired from Pirelli Tire and was a member of White House Church of Christ, where he had served as a deacon. He proudly served his country in the USAF. He loved gardening and squirrel and rabbit hunting. He raised beagles and did field trials with them. He loved his entire family and was very involved in their activities. He was loved by his 17 nieces and nephews and will be missed by his entire family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn Maxine Swift Hamlett; brother, Winford Hamlett; brother-in-laws, Douglas Gant and Sam Cartwright. He is survived by his son, Robert “Lee” Hamlett, Jr (Yuki), White House, TN; 2 grandchildrem, Lexie (Thomas) Braden and Baylee Hamlett; sisters. Betty Ann (Tommy) Elder and Dot Cartwright, both of Goodlettsvile, TN; sister-in-law, Elaine Gant; 2 nieces, Angie Gant and Janet Gant, all of White House, TN .

Jason will be forever remembered by his wife and best friend, Amanda; son, Maddox (13); daughter, Brenna (10); and his parents, Philip and Vickie.

Jason grew up in Harrison, TN and spent his childhood on Chickamauga lake where he developed a lifelong fondness for boating, golf, tennis, and the outdoors. Jason graduated from Central High School in 1994 and continued his education at Middle Tennessee State University. While at MTSU, Jason created lifetime friendships as a member of Kappa Sigma fraternity, and he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Jason married his college sweetheart, Amanda, in 2001, and they proceeded to live a life filled with laughs, adventures, family, faith, and friends. In 2005 Jason and his father started Prichard’s Nursery Equipment, a local business that imports and sells industrial tree spades across the United States.

Jason was a fiercely dedicated family man and loving husband who was actively engaged in the lives of his children. Jason loved to travel, wakeboard, golf, snow ski, and most importantly spend quality time with friends and family. Jason was a member of the Gallatin Country Club and Long Hollow Baptist Church. Jason was known for his warm and relaxing personality, his stoic temperament, his wittiness, and his compassionate spirit.

floral squareThe family received friends on Wednesday July 31, 2019 from 10 am until the Celebration of Life Service at 2 pm at Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville with Jerry Davis officiating. Pallbearers were Bo Williams, Tate Williams, David Williams, Kerry Rogers, Travis Massengill, Andy Lehman, Aaron Cowles and Marvin Turner.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the children’s college fund at any First Tennessee Bank location under the Amanda Carol Prichard Memorial Fund.
