One Dead And One LifeFlighted In Millersville Shooting Sunday Night
SEE UPDATES BELOW
MILLERSVILLE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) Millersville Police are investigating a shooting that occurred late Sunday Evening. Around 10:15 p.m. Police were called to a home located at 250 Flat Ridge Rd in regards to an argument between two males inside the residence.
Police were told there were guns inside the home so negotiators attempted to reach the two men by phone with no luck, according to Millersville Police Chief David Hindman.
Police said they had been at the home for about 5 minutes when a single gunshot was heard inside the home. Three Millersville Police Officers and two Sumner County Sheriff’s Deputies then entered the home.
When the officers entered the home they found two men laying on the floor, one (estimated to be in his late 30’s or early 40’s) deceased in an “upper living room” with a gunshot wound to the head, and a second man (estimated to be in his 20’s) badly beaten and unconscious in the kitchen hallway, Chief Hindman said.
Hindmand said the type of gun used was a large caliber handgun.
It was not clear to investigators if the shooting victim had shot himself or if he was shot by someone else. The shooting victim’s head was draped with a towel or a rag, which is not conducive to a suicide, Hindman said.
Though he would not elaborate, Hindman said there were some unusual circumstances at the scene so the TBI has been called to assist in the investigation.
“The TBI has specialized equipment that will help us better understand what happened at this home this evening, Hindman said.”
Hindman said the call came into 911 around 10:15 p.m. by a third person (a female) that was also inside the home at the time of the incident.
The man that was unconscious appeared to have “blunt force trauma” to the mouth but the full extent of his injuries was not clear, Hindman said. He was transported via Lifeflight to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville.
Police are hoping that after he regains consciousness he will be able to shed some light on what happened.
We also learned that gunshot residue tests were being performed on both men.
Police were not prepared to release the names of the victims early Monday and they were still piecing together the relationship between the three people that were in the home during the incident.
UPDATE : July 13, 12:29 p.m.
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Takes Over Investigation.
According to Josh DeVine, Public Information Officer with the TBI, “We were requested by the Millersville Police Department and District Attorney Ray Whitley shortly after midnight Monday to investigate an incident at 250 Flat Ridge Road, which is within Millersville jurisdiction.
“A female inside the home called 911 to report a domestic disturbance. Shortly after law enforcement officers arrived and while they were outside the home, they heard a gunshot.
“There was one deceased male inside the home, 49 year old Leo Jackson. His son Dallas Jackson, 21, sustained injuries and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
“The TBI’s Violent Crimes Response Team was also called in to process the evidence.
“The investigation into the incident remains active and ongoing.”
Initially the TBI was called in to assist in the investigation, we have now learned that the case was voluntarily handed over to the TBI. Smokey Barn News has reached out to the Millersville police department for their reasoning on handing over the case to the TBI but with the investigation still ongoing they will likely defer us to the TBI.
