Senator Roberts Says, “Congressman Green Needs To Stay”

ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) – In the wake of Congressman Mark Green’s announcement that he will not seek reelection last week (FULL STORY) Senator Kerry Roberts said in a statement released to Smokey Barn News that Congressman Green has done a great job and needs to stay.

Senator Roberts still has yet to respond to inquiries regarding his potential candidacy for Green’s seat. Instead, he released the following statement Sunday afternoon.

“People have asked me about running for Congress, and here are my thoughts. Mark Green is a tough act to follow! As far as I’m concerned, he is the one who needs to be our representative in Congress. I’m going to say publicly what I know a lot of Tennesseans think: we wish he would run for reelection! He is doing a great job for us in Congress, and he is the one we need fighting the fight on our behalf. I hope Mark will reconsider and run for reelection!”

In his retirement announcement last week, Congressman Mark Green (who represents all or part of 14 Tennessee counties) said “I have come to realize our fight is not here within Washington, our fight is with Washington.”

“At the start of the 118th Congress, I promised my constituents to pass legislation to secure our borders and to hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable. Today, with the House having passed H.R. 2 and Secretary Mayorkas impeached, it is time for me to return home. In the last few months, in reading the writings of our Framers, I was reminded of their intent for representatives to be citizen-legislators, to serve for a season and then return home. Our country–and our Congress–is broken beyond most means of repair. I have come to realize our fight is not here within Washingtonour fight is with Washington. As I have done my entire life, I will continue serving this country–but in a new capacity.” For Green’s full announcement click here.

Congressman Green represents the US seventh congressional district that includes Robertson, Montgomery, Stewart, Houston, Humphreys, Dickson, Cheatham, Houston, Benton, and part of Davidson County.

Smokey Barn News will be reaching out to Congressman Green to see if there is in-fact any chance he will reconsider a run for another term.
