Springfield Carpet One Turns 30-Find Out What Big Trend Changed Everything

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Springfield Carpet One Floor & Home celebrates 30 years of excellence since its inception on March 1, 1994. Founded by Mitch and Dayna Lancaster, the company has blossomed from its humble beginnings as Hometown Decorating. Over the years, their family has grown, now comprising four daughters, two sons-in-law, and five grandchildren. With deep roots in Robertson County, Dayna’s hometown, the couple’s dedication to quality service and community has remained unwavering. Today, Springfield Carpet One Floor & Home stands as a pillar of flooring and home improvement expertise in Springfield, Tennessee.

“We opened March 1, 1994,” said Co-Owner Dayna Lancaster. “At the time, we had a 6-month-old daughter. Now we have four grown daughters, 2 sons-in-law, and 5 grandchildren. We opened as Hometown Decorating and were a spin-off of Hometown Decorating in Hopkinsville, KY where Mitch had worked for several years.”

Dayna grew up in Robertson County, graduated from Jo Byrns High School, and attended Red River Baptist Church, which is about as local as you can get. Dayna told Smokey Barn News She and her husband Mitch loved raising their family among the kind people she had grown up around. “After 7 years, we received an option to buy the portion of the business owned by Hometown Decorating so we did. It was shortly after that we changed the name to Springfield Flooring & Paint until evolving the name to Springfield Carpet One Floor & Home.”

“We have had 2 locations in Springfield, Mitch said. “We opened at 409 Memorial Blvd and were there for 19 years. In 2012, we moved down the street to 2810 Memorial Blvd which provided us a much larger showroom and allowed us to carry a lot more products for our customers.”

How have flooring trends changed compared to 30 years ago? Back in the 90’s everyone was putting in carpet. Those heavy-looped Berbers were definitely in, and that changed from different colors for every room to one color throughout the home but today people are shying away from carpet. What people want today is hard surfaces. Why’s that? “Pets— today everyone has pets.” It’s estimated that around 67% of U.S. households, or about 85 million families, own a pet. Of these, approximately 63.4 million households have at least one dog, and about 42.7 million households have at least one cat. COVID pushed that into hyperdrive. “Pets (inside the home) are a major consideration when buying flooring.” Even hardwood is going out in exchange for luxury vinyl and laminates because hardwood is more vulnerable to scratching, especially if you have larger dogs.”

“Carpet One is a co-op. Springfield Carpet One is 100% locally owned. We are a member of Carpet One which gives us the buying power and support that small businesses typically don’t have. We have a new display system that makes shopping easier for the customer. It organizes hard surface products like hardwood, luxury vinyl tile, and laminate by color. You find the color you want and all the different products in that color are together. We have also brought some new technology into our showroom. Our room visualizer allows the customer to send a picture of their room from their cell phone to our screen and we can show them what the products will look like in their home.

“We are so grateful to Robertson County and surrounding areas for supporting our business by shopping locally. We strive to treat our customers the way we would want to be treated. We love our community and consider it a privilege to be invited into your homes and businesses. We are also grateful to God for His presence and blessings through the ups and downs of growing a small business. We look forward to many more years providing beautiful, quality flooring and great customer service for our neighbors.”

More about their services…

“Springfield Carpet One offers free in-home measures as a service to their customers. We know everyone is busy and their time is valuable. A simple phone call will put you on the road to new floors. We can even bring samples to your home or business when we measure to make the process as quick and easy as possible for our customers.

“We sell and install hardwood, luxury vinyl tile, laminate, carpet, area rugs, sheet vinyl, ceramic/porcelain tile, and custom window blinds and shades. We also make custom area rugs. The customer chooses their carpet and the size they want and we make the rug to their specifications.

“We have been proud to support our community in many ways over the years. We have helped with Habitat for Humanity homes, sponsored local sports teams, supported local schools, and supported many local events. We are currently coming alongside Shine Pediatric Therapy and sponsoring their community-wide special needs basketball program. Carpet One stores across the country also work together to support Building for America’s Bravest which builds smart homes for veterans who are double, triple or quadruple amputees and pays off mortgages for Gold Star Families.
