GREENBRIER HOME IGNITES 9 pm

We have a structure fire (a two-story home) in the 2900 block of Lights Chapel Road in Greenbrier near Childress Rd. MAP Emergency personnel are en route and on scene. If you’re traveling in the area watch for first responders and drive with care. We are gathering more information.

UPDATE: According to Greenbrier Fire Chief Kyle Hamill, the fire has been extinguished, and the home remains largely intact. Chief Hamill reported that the fire was primarily confined to the home’s heating ducts; however, a 10×10 section of floor joists will require replacement. Fortunately, several kittens were safely rescued from the upper levels of the home. Remarkably, Chief Hamill stated that the home remains habitable, allowing the family to continue residing there. “It was a good stop,” Hamill, said.

Hamill attributed the cause of the fire to a smoke bomb placed inside the heating duct in an attempt to eradicate a skunk. Though the smoke bomb was properly tethered, a portion likely broke free and found its way to a low spot in the ductwork, leading to ignition, Hamill said.

Hamill told Smokey Barn News that he strongly suggests seeking assistance from a professional pest remover when dealing with any rodent infestation. Additionally, he emphasized the importance of avoiding products that utilize any form of ignition, particularly within ductwork.

Chief Hamill wanted to thank the White House Community Volunteer Fire Department, the Ridgetop Fire Department, the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, Robertson County EMS, and the Greenbrier Police Department for their assistance.

The family evacuated the home immediately after the fire started so there are no injuries to report.
