Happy Resurrection Sunday, He’s Alive!
Dear Editor;
Years ago I considered myself to be a good person. I never did anything seriously bad like murder or rape, so I was confident I was going to heaven when I died.
However, what is the definition of “good.” The dictionary says “good” is to be “morally excellent. The Bible says that God is good, and the Ten Commandments are His standard of goodness. Getting into heaven by good deeds demands absolute perfection and no one is that good.
When I honestly looked into the mirror of the Ten Commandments, God’s law, I realized I was guilty of breaking them and had sinned against the God that gave me life. Keep in mind that God sees lust as adultery (Matt. 5:28) and hatred as murder (1 John 3:15). The truth is, no one can keep the 10 Commandments. Their purpose in the Bible is to show you that you are a sinner. God’s Word in Romans 3:20 says, “Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” On Judgment Day every sin we have ever committed (even secret sins) will come out as evidence of our guilt.
Because God is perfect, just and holy, He must punish sin wherever it’s found. I was destined for eternal punishment in hell. The Bible says, for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; (Rom. 3:23). On Judgment Day we will be found guilty, and end up in Hell forever.
God did something special so we would not go to hell. Through His love and mercy He became a man through Jesus Christ, died on the cross to take our punishment, and then he rose from the dead (Romans 5:8). We broke God’s law, and Jesus paid the penalty for our sins in full. All we have to do is truly repent (confess and turn from sin) and trust in Jesus Christ, and God will forgive our sins and grant eternal life with him in heaven.
The resurrection of the Christ is God’s guarantee that those who believe on Jesus as Savior will not perish but have everlasting life. This is reason for celebration.

The Eclipse, Bible & Solar Flares
One question I get is about the events mentioned in the Bible that maybe an eclipse.
Acts. 2:20 – “The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious Day of the Lord comes.”
The question usually is, “is this event an eclipse?” “the sun will be turned into darkness” This is not a regular reoccurring eclipse, but a special supernatural occurrence in the time of Tribulation that precedes the Second Coming of Christ when he comes from heaven to earth and fights and wins the Battle of Armageddon (Rev. 19). This prediction, as the quotation itself, is in Joel, and Jesus spoke of the sun being darkened when he taught his disciples about the Great Tribulation (Matt. 24:29), and the book of Revelation says the sun will be darkened (Rev. 6:12; 8:12). The sun being darkened is connected to the wrath of God, not just in these verses, but in the ninth of the ten plagues that struck Egypt at the time of the Exodus, which was a plague of darkness (Exod. 10:21).
“the moon into blood” The moon does not literally become “blood,” but becomes blood-colored. This is well described in Revelation 6:12, which uses the word “like” to describe the appearance of the moon: “and the full moon became like blood.” The verb metastrepho, translated “turned” governs both the nouns sun and moon, so that we understand the moon is “turned” into blood, i.e., turned into blood from the point of view of someone looking at it from earth, i.e., it becomes blood-colored. In a lunar eclipse, the moon can take on a dark red appearance, but this verse is not referring to a lunar eclipse, but to a full moon, which is usually brilliant white. Instead, at this time in the Tribulation, the full moon is blood red. Although Acts. 2:20 simply says “moon,” the book of Revelation specifically says, “whole moon,” which we refer to as a “full moon.”
In thinking about the effects of the sun and moon on us I think of this: God expects us to learn life lessons from the world around us, and we can learn a great “joy lesson” from the moon. When the moon looks fully at the sun (a full moon), it is lit up with light and shines brilliant white in the night sky. However, when the moon looks at the earth (a lunar eclipse), it is dark, depressing, and usually has a red tint to it as if it were angry. We are like the moon. When we look at the earth and focus our attention on the things of this life, we become dark-minded, depressed and/or angry.
However, when we look at the Son, and focus our attention on the things of God, we become full of light (joy) and shine into the lives of those around us. Let us learn from the moon to focus our attention on the Son. We will have an inner joy that will give us strength for life in this difficult world, and we will shine blessings into the people around us.
Now, back to the eclipse event in April. As you know, we experienced an eclipse in 2017 when the moon was a little further away from the earth which caused the path of totality to be a little thinner. That eclipse in 2017 had a path of between 62 to 70 miles wide. During this April eclipse the path over North America will range between 110 to 125 miles wide so this one has a better change of being experienced that the one in 2017.
For the eclipse on April 8th it looks like in a long range weather forecast, that more people will be able to experience it this time due to clear skies along the path of totality. For us in the US the event will start in Texas and head northeast through Maine. Timing for us in Middle Tn is starting at 12:45 AM Central Time til 3:20 PM Central Time. The best times for us is between 1:30 PM til 2:00 PM for totality of darkness. We have a high probability of a clear sky in Robertson County for that date as far as I can tell right now.
What will happen is that the event will put a narrow strip of land into total darkness for a short period of time which sometimes effect animal and bird habits. Some animals have a tendency to go to rest like the end of the day and others, such as turtles, have a tendency to mate during this period of time.
The eclipse in 2017 had a total duration of 2 minutes and 40 seconds. This year if a person is in the middle of the totality of the eclipse they will experience 4 minutes and 28 seconds of total darkness. We in Robertson County, will experience about 95% totality which means a shorter time with the peak around 2:03 PM.
The stages of a total solar eclipse include: partial eclipse, shadow bands, Baily’s Beads, Diamond Ring, and totality. The totality stage is the only time observers can view the eclipse with the naked eye. Another thing that we may see this time is solar flares shooting out from the surface of the sun. If this occurs at the full eclipse time we could see the flares plainly showing off from the surface of the sun just as the moon completely covers the sun. Many think is a good possibility this year due to the extra solar flare activity that is going on this year. Since we are not in 100% totality we will need special eclipse glasses to see these flares since part of the sun will be visibly along the edges of the moon. If you can see these flares consider it a special treat for you.
Solar flares effect the geometric or earth’s noise level on radio transmission. What normally we experience in these events are noisy AM stations or radio signals being diminished for a short period of time. These are called geomagnetic storms that are caused by the solar energy being cast toward the earth from the solar flares. This involves what is called “solar wind” coming from the sun toward the earth in the form of charged particles released from the corona of the sun. This “plasma” contains electrons, protons and alpha particles with kinetic energy and does not effect us physically.

Trial By Evidence
One night a man had a dream and he dreamed that he had died.
He found himself in a courtroom where his soul was being tried.
On his left side of the devil and on his face he had a grin. He said, you know you were guilty for I have evidence of all your sins.
Now on his right stood Moses and he said Satan cannot have the, for we have sent for a witness and he’s coming from Calvary.
Well, the devil tried his very best and the evidence piled high, but then it began to disappear as the witness walked inside.
The witness walked up and took the stand, then he looked at the judge and said, “My Father”, please set him free, for this evidence no longer exists. I left it on that cross at Calvary
-Rick Hardec 1981
Case For Rescue
“I simply argue that the cross be raised again, at the center of the marketplace as well as on the steeple of the church.
Jesus was not crucified in a cathedral between two candles but on a cross between two thieves; on a town garbage heap; at a crossroad of politics so cosmopolitan that they had to write His title in Hebrew and in Latin and in Greek…and at the kind of place where cynics talk smut, and thieves curse, and soldiers gamble. Because that is where He died, And that is what He died about.
And that is where Christ’s own ought to be, And that is what church people ought to be about.”
-George Macleod
“Some men look for tall steeples and big bells. Give me a rescue mission one yard from hell.”

Trivia – Do you know?
Answers are found at the end of this post.
Saved!, How?
Examine what is taught in the Holy Scriptures for yourself and see
- All have sinned—“For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” – Romans 3:23
- Sin must be paid for—“For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life” – Romans 6:23
- Jesus Christ paid for our sins—“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” – Romans 5:8
- What we must do—“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” – Romans 10:13
Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. (Acts 16:29-31)
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Eph. 2:8-9)
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. (1 John 5:10-13)
- How we can know we are on our way to Heaven—“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life…” – John 3:36
- How To be Sure We are Saved—“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name” – John 1:12
Prayer is our most powerful resource and our direct line with Heaven! You can call on the Lord any hour of the day or night no matter where you are. Pray honestly and openly with the Lord in your own words from the heart. Richard Sibbes Once said, “God can pick sense out of a confused prayer!” And The angel fetched Peter out of prison, but it was prayer that fetched the angel according to Thomas Watson. So pray!!!, God is listening, he knows you, He knew you before you were born according to Jeremiah 1:5.
It will change your life, and you will NEVER be the same!
Just One Angel
Think of the great power that Jesus held under submission in order that His work would be completed. Ten thousand angels wield power beyond the imagination of man. Read below what just one angel did in one night and no one even knew he was there. Jerusalem was under siege by the Sennacherib and the city would fall in the morning, but God dispatched just one small angel and here is the result of his work in one night.
2 Kings 19:32-35 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shield, nor cast a bank against it.
By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD. And it came to pass that night, that the angel of the LORD went out, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians an hundred fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.
The next morning Sennacherib’s army was short 185,000 soldiers as they were slain in the night and no one even knew the angel was there. General Sennacherib is forced to go home and explain what happened to his army. He was murdered by his own sons. So what could and elite force of thousands of angels do you may ask. The only answer I can give is, more than one can imagine!
