Tractor Accident In Springfield Tragically Takes One Life Saturday
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Robertson County Officials say a tractor accident has taken the life of a Springfield man Saturday. Officials released the name of the man Sunday morning, he is identified as Michael Andrew Bell of Springfield. The accident took place at the Bell’s home on Clarity Rd in Springfield.
According to Cross Plains Fire Chief Tommy Jackson, Mr. Bell had been missing for several hours when he was discovered pinned under a tractor in the back part of the Bell’s property around 10:00pm Saturday night.
Chief Jackson said Mr. Bell was discovered by his sister just before 10:00pm Saturday evening. Officials were not exactly sure how long Bell had been pinned under the tractor before he was discovered but officials did indicate that the tractor was still running at the time he was discovered. The tractor was sitting about a half mile back from the road in a wooded area, Jackson said.
Neighbors Raymond Mangrum and Shauni Ragsdale heard a woman screaming “help-help!” and immediately called 911. Raymond said he made the call at 10:02pm.
Chief Jackson said, the tractor, which had no reverse, had become stuck. It appears as though Mr. Bell was trying to free the tractor using a come-along (pictured right) when somehow the tractor rolled on top of him. Mr Bell ended up under the rear wheel, Jackson said.
As the night progressed, friends and church members began to arrive offering their support.
It was just a week ago Friday that a Greenbrier man lost his life in a tractor accident. In that case too, the man ended up under the rear wheel. MORE
Smokey Barn News would like to convey our deepest sympathy to the Bell family as they face this tragedy.
