Two Fires Minutes Apart – An Alfalfa Hay Barn Fire and hay bales half a football field apart just down the road…..
Smokey Barn News September 28, 2013 Cross Plains/Orlinda Tenn.
Cross Plains/Orlinda Fire crews were dispatched to a barn fire Saturday evening a little after 6:30pm at the Tate Family farm located at 7265 Bob Carr Rd in Cross Plains/Orlinda area near Yates Cave Rd. It was a hay barn filled with alfalfa/grass hay and it is a total loss.
We spoke with Brandon Tate and he feels the fire is suspicious and believes arson to be a possible cause. The Tate’s did have insurance on the structure but not the contents. The Tate’s estimated the hay to be worth about $2500. Fire crews were on the scene for about ten minutes when another call came in. This time it was a field just a mile down the road where two hay bales about a half a football field apart were also on fire. Orlinda Fire responded to the second call. Fire crews were able to keep both fires from spreading. Cross Plains Fire Chief Tommy Jackson was the site commander and a full investigation is underway. This was the same address of a fire that destroyed a home some years ago. Stay tuned for updates….
