Now (with the help of the community)  Springfield Police say they have identified the man and they are releasing his identity. Police say, Jason Hunter, 37, of Greenbrier is the man captured on video surveillance allegedly removing the missing items. The incident occurred at a local convenience store where, according to Springfield Police, Hunter can be seen allegedly picking up a wallet/cell-phone combination case that was incidentally left behind by another patron.

Robertson Countians have an excellent track record identifying persons of interest for local authorities. The last one took about 45 seconds and Springfield Police are grateful for your help. This one was no different. Almost immediately tips on the man’s identity came flooding in.

The incident occurred on Thursday, October 10, 2019, around 6:00 PM at the Korner Market located on the corner of 5th and Kinneys Rd. MAP

The carrying-case concealed an iPhone 8 and an assortment of Credit/Debit Cards. Minutes after the suspect allegedly left the store with the iPhone and case, the patron returned to the store looking for their property.

Now, according to Springfield Police, the iPhone and wallet (including the credit cards) have been recovered and have been returned to the owner.

Police tell Smokey Barn News that Hunter confessed and he was taken into custody. Hunter was charged with Theft-Of-Property-Over $500 and Failure-To-Appear. His bond was set at $1,250.00. He was transported to the Robertson County Detention Facility in Springfield. As of 8 pm on Friday evening, Hunter has not bonded out.
