White House High School All-Clear Following Alert

WHITE HOUSE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – White House High School was briefly put on ‘Alert’ following what was initially thought to be a social media threat via Instagram, officials calling it a hoax.

According to Sumner County Sheriff Sonny Weatherford, “Basically we received a call after some students went to the front office concerned about a social media post. Due to what school officials saw, they didn’t place the school on lockdown, they just put it on ‘Alert’ until we could find the students and talk to them, but there was nothing to it, so everything’s fine.”

The incident started at 10:23am and lasted just a little over an hour, Weatherford said. “One of the students was not at school, so they actually had to find that student, just so they could talk to everyone that was involved.”

According to Weatherford, the internet post was placed on Instagram and depicted students with the lyrics of a song superimposed.

The one student that was not onsite turned out to be home sick. Weatherford said detectives spoke to the students parents.

The situation was concerning to parents and students. Students were texting out because they saw the police officers at the school followed by the ‘Alert’ status, Weatherford said. “It got people excited”

Weatherford said he didn’t believe any of the students were going to be facing disciplinary action but would defer to the Supervisor of Board And Community Relations Jeremy Johnson at Sumner County Schools.
