FRAUD ALERT: Card Readers Found on Local Bank ATMs
CLARKSVILLE TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – On Saturday August 13, around 9 am, an individual noticed something suspicious about the ATM at the First Advantage Bank located at 2070 Wilma Rudolph Blvd in Clarksville.
Something just didn’t seem right to a bank customer. What they discovered was a credit/debit card skimmer affixed to the mouth of the ATM.
What is a card skimmer? A card skimmer is a device made to be affixed to the mouth of an ATM to secretly swipe credit and debit card information when bank customers slip their cards into the machines to pull out money. This applies to other equipment, such as gas pumps, where credit/debit cards are used.
When a First Advantage bank employee advised the other branches, employees from their Madison St and Fort Campbell Blvd branches found skimmer devices attached to their ATM’s as well.
Clarksville Police Officers have taken possession of the devices, however, it is unknown at this time how many of these devices have been attached to other ATMs at other locations across middle Tennessee.
All businesses, especially banks and gas stations, are advised to check equipment where credit/debit cards can be used.
Now police believe they have identified a couple of suspects. Photos below.
The vehicle the suspects were driving appears to be a silver Pontiac Montana with a Jesus Fish symbol on the lower left corner of the back window.
If anyone recognizes these individuals and their vehicle or has any information related to these incidents, please call 931-648-0656 and ask for Detective Channing Bartel at Ext 5144 or Detective Andy Hurst at Ext 5263. You can also call the CrimeStoppers TIPS Hotline at 931-645-TIPS or go to the CrimeStoppers website.
