Three Hospitalized In Hwy 49 Head On Crash Sunday

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Three people were hospitalized following a head-on crash on Hwy 49 East just outside of Springfield Sunday morning.

The crash occurred around 10:00am on Hwy 49 between Wilks Rd and Owens Chapel Rd. MAP

The two vehicle crash involved a pickup truck and a Corvette, the two vehicles appearing to have collided head on. The Corvette appears to have been heading North, towards Orlinda, and the pickup heading towards Springfield when the accident occurred.

There were two occupants in the Corvette. According to Cross Plains Fire Chief Tommy Jackson, the driver of the Corvette was Lifeflighted to Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville and the passenger was  transported (emergency traffic) via ground to Skyline Medical Center.

The driver of the pickup truck was transported  to NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield via ground, Non-emergency traffic.

Officials were able to keep one lane of Hwy 49 open during most of the investigation of the crash but there were some traffic delays as officials cleared the scene.

The Cross Plains Fire Department, The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, Robertson County EMS, Robertson County Emergency Management Agency and the Tennessee Highway Patrol all responded to the crash.
