Pedestrian Dies Following Accident on Tom Austin Hwy In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A pedestrian has died following what the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) is calling an accident on Tom Austin Hwy in Springfield Tuesday evening.

The crash occurred on Tom Austin Hwy near Aldi’s just up from Walmart. LOCATION OF ACCIDENT A Springfield Police Officer came up on the accident and called it in at 6:30 pm..

According to Robertson County EMS, a 59-year-old man, now identified by the THP as Gary Clark, was reportedly struck by a passing vehicle while riding a mobility scooter. The driver involved in the incident is an unidentified 17-year-old male operating a 2007 Mazda M3. The scooter was heavily damaged. Clark did not survive, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol’s preliminary investigation, Clark (in an attempt to cross Tom Austin Hwy) entered the Mazda’s “lane of travel” and was struck, the report said. The driver immediately pulled over.  According to the THP’s report, the teen will not be facing any charges.

The Springfield Fire Department, the Springfield Police Department, and the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency all responded to the call.
