85 Year Old Retired Springfield Farmer Gets Wish To Fly Again
You’re never too old to dream... A Second Wind Dream…
SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – His name is Mr. Gene Barbee and he’s 85 years old and he has lived in Springfield his entire life. He learned to fly years ago and loved it but health and vision problems grounded him. Mr Barbee hasn’t been up in a plane in many years.
Rae Mayes, Life Enrichment Coordinator, at Morningside of Springfield where Mr. Barbee currently lives in conjunction with “Second Wind Dreams” called Pilot Chris Ferraraccio of Wingnuts Aviation. Chris Ferraraccio is part of the team that runs the Robertson County Airport.
When Chris heard about Mr’s Barbee’s dream to fly and he gladly offered to take him up for a tour over Springfield. This past Tuesday Chris showed up at Morningside and asked Mr. Barbee if he wanted to “go for a ride.” Without hesitation, Mr. Barbee said; “I sure would!”
With Ferraraccio acting as Mr Barbee’s eyes for the instruments Barbee took the controls, he flew like nobody’s business. It all came flooding back and it became a day that Mr. Barbee will not soon forget.
Smokey Barn News would like to thank Morningside, the Barbee’s and Wingnuts Aviation for inviting us to tag along for Gene’s great adventure.
