ROBERTSON COUNTY TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Over the next few days, Robertson County and surrounding areas will be experiencing high temperatures coupled with high humidity with a dangerously high heat index prompting an excessive heat warning. Below, please see important messages from the Robertson County Emergency Management Agency, Robertson County Emergency Medical Services, and the National Weather Service.
URGENT – WEATHER MESSAGE – National Weather Service Nashville TN Wed Jun 28, 2023
…EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THURSDAY TO 8 PM CDT FRIDAY…
* WHAT…Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values 105 to 115 expected during the afternoon and evenings.
* WHERE…Areas along and west of I-65.
* WHEN…From 11 AM Thursday to 8 PM CDT Friday.
* IMPACTS…Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
THURSDAY – STORMS…Potential for severe storms late tomorrow morning, there will be the possibility for damaging wind gusts of 60+ mph between 9 am and 1 pm.
…PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out. of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles. under any circumstances.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

Robertson County EMA would like to encourage everyone to stay indoors if possible, on Thursday and Friday June 29th & 30th. The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat warning that will take effect on June 29th at 11a.m. until June 30th at 8p.m. This warning was issued following the possibility of dangerously hot conditions with heat index values 105 to 115. This increases the risk of heat related illness and injury to anyone outside for any amount of time. Please see below for actions you can take to limit exposure.

Precautions/Advice:
• Limit time outdoors this includes adults, children, and pets.
• Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or late evening.
• Know the signs of Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke.

Examples include:
Young children and infants are particularly vulnerable to heat-related illness and death, as their bodies are less able to adapt to heat than are adults.
Older adults, particularly those with preexisting diseases, take certain medications, are living alone or with limited mobility who are exposed to extreme heat can experience multiple adverse effects.
People with chronic medical conditions are more likely to have a serious health problem during a heat wave than healthy people.
Pregnant women are also at higher risk. Extreme heat events have been associated with adverse birth outcomes such as low birth weight, preterm birth, and infant mortality, as well as congenital cataracts.
