Obituary for Naomi Kathleen Flatt

Naomi Kathleen Flatt, 87, of Springfield, passed from this life on Friday October 13, 2023, at NHC Healthcare Center in Springfield. A private family entombment service will be conducted in the Joelton Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum.

Mrs. Flatt was born October 8, 1936, in Indian Mound, TN, to the late Leonard H. and Margie Craig Armstrong. She was a retired assembly technician from Acme Boot and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Mrs. Flatt enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son: Richard Dean Flatt, and by her siblings: Nathan floral squareArmstrong, Thelma Wray, Sylvia Littlejohn, and Annie Goodwin.

Mrs. Flatt is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Deborah and Tommy Wayne Hunter of Springfield, by her sister: Hazel Jones of Nashville, by her grandchildren: Tommy Ray Hunter and Lesley Wayne Hunter, and by 5 great grandchildren.

Obituary for Randall (Randy) Dixon

Randall (Randy) Dixon, 58, departed this life on Sunday, October 15, 2023 peacefully at home where he wanted to be. He demonstrated great strength, courage, and dignity over many years as he battled multiple chronic illnesses.

He was born on December 6, 1964 to Domer & Barbara Dixon in Livingston, Tennessee. As the middle son of two sisters, he kept them on their toes and was known as a risk taker. Randalls sense of humor was unique and if you knew him, you witnessed this first hand. He was always the life of the party and was always wearing a smile no matter how he was feeling. He loved hard and true and his zest for life was infectious.

Randall lived most of his life in Springfield, Tennessee and graduated from Springfield High School, Class of 1983. He had a passion for older cars and trucks and loved riding motorcycles. He was a hard worker & helper and one to push through even when the pain of multiple surgeries and other health problems began to take a toll on him, while always showing up for his family and friends.

Randall was loved by many who will dearly miss him. His wife, Teri Dixon of 23 years who he loved and adored. His children: Kristen Johnson, Kayla Dixon, Jade Dixon & wife Lauren, Jessika Dixon Collins & husband Corey, Emily Riddle, Amanda Alexander & husband Dusty, Rebecca Minyard & husband Christian. His two sisters, Kathy Dugan and Lisa Patterson. Eighteen grandchildren, and 4 nieces. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives & friends will miss his laughter and fun loving nature.

Obituary for Dale “Mayor” Shearon

Dale “Mayor” Franklin Shearon, age 77 of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died Sunday, October 15, 2023 at his home.

Memorial services will be conducted at Mallory’s Church, 4330 Thomasville Rd, Chapmansboro, TN. at 1:00PM on Saturday, November 4th, with Bro. Randy Hester officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in Mallory’s Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12:00PM until the hour of service at 1:00PM.

Mr. Shearon was born on November 24, 1945, in Montgomery County, Tennessee, to the late Frank & Dorothy Hunter Shearon. He was a veteran of the United States Army and later served in the National Guard. He was owner and operator of a mechanic shop for over 55 years. Mr. Shearon was mayor of Thomasville and loved to fish, cook, and was well known for his ribs, chicken, and turnip greens. He took pride in his tomato plants. He loved his family and grandchildren, but most of all he loved his Lord and Savior. He was a member of Mallory’s Church.

Martha Woodall Escue, age 81 of White House passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Skyline Medical Center. She was born March 16, 1942 in Hopkinsville, KY to James E. & Ann Pierce Pyle. She worked as a purchasing agent for Textron Aerostructures before her retirement. She enjoyed watching FOX News, spending time outdoors, watching Titans football and spending time with her family and friends. She was very opinionated and outspoken and missed her little dog Rowdy who passed away a few short weeks ago.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald E. Woodall. She is survived by her loving husband of 23 years, Robert “Bobby” Escue; sons, Gregory Scott (Tina) Woodall, Todd (Stacy) Escue , Brian (Cindy) Escue, all of White House, TN and Matt;, Goodlettsville, TN; daughters, Alicia Dawn Woodall and Amanda (Erik) Anderson, all of White House, TN; brother, Mike (Carol) Pyle, Hopkinsville, KY; 8 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.

Paul Henry “Pete” Denning, age 94 of Orlinda, passed from this life on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at the Waters of Springfield.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Revered David Dean officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, KY with family and friends serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4 until 7 PM and Tuesday from 8 AM until the hour of service.

floral squareMr. Denning was born November 20, 1928 in Orlinda to the late Joe and Maude Jennett Denning. He was a member of Orlinda Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a farmer and was a retired Tennessee State Trooper where he worked with the truck weigh stations. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Steen Denning; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Surviving him are his sons and daughter-in-law, John Denning of Orlinda and Phillip “P.W.” and Karen Denning of Adairville, KY; grandson, A.J. Reynolds; one great grandchild; and two great-great grandchildren.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice.

Obituary for Mrs. Mary Sue Stuard Hitchcock Clauson

Mrs. Mary Sue Stuard Hitchcock Clauson, age 84, of Adams, TN passed away on October 12, 2023 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation with the family will be held from 10 am until the time of the service on October 17, 2023 at the River House at Southern Light, 3476 Rossview Road, Clarksville, TN. Funeral services will be conducted at noon with Brother Bruce Cunningham officiating, burial to follow at Bellwood Cemetery in Adams, TN.

Mrs. Clauson was born in Robertson County on August 11, 1939 to the late Madge White Stuard and Clarence Stuard, Sr. She was a graduate of Jo Byrns High School. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, gardening, painting, watching Hallmark movies, and most of all spending time with her family. She retired from US Air where she was a flight coordinator. She was a woman of strong faith and most recently attended LifePoint Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marwood Clauson, her brothers Clarence Stuard, Jr. and Jerry Stuard, and her sister Sandra Cook. She is survived by her children Carol Hitchcock Rozanski (Casey Coble) and Joseph (Alejandra) Hitchcock, her grandchildren Brittany (Steve) McCurdy, Derek Rozanski, Mary Charlotte Hitchcock, and Annie Hitchcock, her great-grandchildren Laynie Crabill, Kiah McCurdy, and Wyatt McCurdy, as well as her sisters Helen Bellar, Delma Woosley, Bessie Bryant, and Jean Deighton. Additionally, she is survived by her step-daughters Desni Clauson Brannon, Michelle (Bill) Clauson Hulbert, and Kristin (Chip) Clauson Gifford, their children and grandchildren.

Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery with Hunter Lassiter, Jake Leftrick, Logan Leftrick, Tyler Spain, Drake Spain, Keaton Clinard, and Caleb Clinard serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Dotsie was born January 22, 1944, in Springfield, to the late Lawrence and Mossy Heatherly Prince. She was a retired supervisor from Datrek Professional Bags and was a member of Eastland Heights Baptist Church. Dotsie enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture, antiquing, horses, and going to yard sales. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Ralph Leftrick, Sr.; granddaughter Caitlin Lassiter Leftrick; and by her siblings: Cora Lee Arnold, Elizabeth Johnson, and Wayne Prince.

Obituary for Terry Wayne Hampton

Terry Wayne Hampton, age 67 of White House, passed from this life on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at St. Thomas West Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10 AM until the hour of service.

Terry was born January 17, 1956 in Springfield to the late John L. and Evelyn Virginia Dunivan Hampton. He worked as an analyst with Community Health Systems. He was on the Grand Ole Opry circuit for 25 years where he was a musician, backup singer, and floral squaresong writer. He was very skillful especially in woodworking and painting and enjoyed raising golden retrievers.

Surviving him are his brother, James Harold Hampton of Springfield; sister, Shirley Hampton of Greenbrier; nieces, Pam, Kathy, Janet, and Talisa; nephews, Ronnie and Lonnie; and many cousins.

Donna Marie Shores, age 69 of Edmonton, KY and formerly of Springfield, passed from this life on Friday, October 6, 2023 at her home.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home with Alvin Krantz and Bobby Ray Mantlow officiating. Burial followed in Owens Chapel Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers. The family received friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 until 8 PM and Thursday from 11 AM until the time of service.

Mrs. Donna was born October 1, 1954 in Detroit, MI to the late Bobby and Wanda Williams Mantlow. She formerly worked at Dixie Maid Café and Electrolux and attended a non-denominational church. She enjoyed crocheting, flowers, and working in her own flower beds. She also loved spending time with her family and they shared a lot of love between each other. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Shores; a grandchild, Caleb Marlar; and her sister, Brenda Faye Adams.

Franklin Wayne Knight, age 66, of Springfield, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 at his home.

Burial will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with Jimmy Offutt, Glenn Jackson, Ricky Sparks, Randy Searcy, Stephen Rigsby and Charles Harney serving as pallbearers.

Mr. Knight was born in Cedar Hill to the late Frank and Elma Whitaker Knight. He worked as a stamp operator at Tsubaki in Portland and attended Grace Free Will Baptist Church. He loved to fish, he loved watching football and loved working on old cars.

Obituary for Ronald Powers Moncrief

Ronald Powers Moncrief, age 84, of Ashland City, passed away Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Nashville. Funeral services will be conducted at 12pm Tuesday, October 17th in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield. Military graveside services will be conducted at 2pm Tuesday in the Middle TN State Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10am until time of the service at 12pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Moncrief was born July 11, 1939 in Nashville, to the late Dennis Powers and Lallie Belle Moncrief. He spent his life serving is country in the U.S. Air Force and the Tennessee and Florida National Guards, and retired from the military as a Senior Master Sergeant.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Moncrief was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Pruitt Moncrief; sister, June Duncan; and a half brother, George Moncrief.

He is survived by his son, Michael Powers “Mike” Moncrief; half sister, Sarah Moncrief Gibson; nieces, Tracey Bryant, Leslie Thornton, Rebecca Shaw, Carol Duncan, Tammie Browning, and Denise Key; and nephews, Chad Gibson, Dennis Moncrief, and George Moncrief.

Clarice “Virginia” Locke, age 90, of Greenbrier, passed away Monday, October 9, 2023 at the home of her daughter. Funeral services will be conducted at 11am Thursday, October 12, 2023 in the chapel of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Greenbrier with Bro. Keith Barnett, Bro. Barry Lamoureux, and Bro. Jeremy Weekley officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in Goodlettsville with Lance Locke, Chad Galloway, Clint Galloway, Bart Anderson, Jeff Frazier, and Michael West serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Hope Ann Lamoureux, Leann Frazier, Sally Ann Weekley, Sarah Ann West, and Betsy Ann Barnett.

Mrs. Locke was born in Jacksonville, AL on September 14, 1933 and she was a member of Goodlettsville Church of Christ.

Terry Wayne Strauser, age 60 of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, died Monday, October 9, 2023 at his home.

His wishes were to be cremated and no services are planned.

Mr. Strauser was born on May 29, 1963 in Columbiaville, Michigan to the late Jerry and Lois Terry Strauser. He worked for Advance Composite for 15 years. He enjoyed watching the Tennessee Titans and fishing. He was always fixing things and was very mechanical. Terry loved his family and adored his two dogs, P.J. and Jackson.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Flora Gaye Strauser.

Anjali Peek, 57, of Greenbrier, passed from this life on Sunday October 8, 2023, at her home.

A Celebration of Life service was conducted Friday October 13th at 12 noon in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Tim Harris officiating. The family received friends on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Anjali was born January 22, 1966, in Washington, DC. She was a graduate of Karns High School, in Knoxville, Class of 1984. She later obtained her bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay State University. Anjali worked several years as a Customer Service Manager at Springfield Wal Mart. She loved life, especially being with children, her family, and her friends. Anjali had a huge heart and was always willing to do anything she could for anyone.

Obituary for Eunice Smalling

Eunice Smalling of Springfield passed away in the early hours of October 9 following a long illness. She was born in Nashville on April 1, 1939

Mrs. Smalling is survived by her husband of sixty-eight years, Donald Smalling, her sister, Esther Sullins, resident of Jubilee Hills in Goodlettsville, and daughters, Donna Bock (Gerhard) of Nashville, Jane Armstrong (Joe) of Springfield, and Kathy Arbogast (DeWayne) of Madison. She is survived by seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, many well-loved nieces, nephews and cousins. She leaves behind her lifelong dear friend, Rebeccah Dickens of Hermitage.

Mrs. Smalling is preceded in death by her parents Wilma O’Brien Winfrey Poston and Ollie Aaron Winfrey, and by her brothers, Ray and Ralph Winfrey.

Miss Eunice grew up in East Nashville and Madison. Mr. and Mrs. Smalling lived many years in Madison and White House before retiring to Springfield. For many years, Mrs. Smalling attended Old Hickory Boulevard Church of Christ in Madison and White House Church of Christ before joining the brethren at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Springfield.

In earlier times, Mrs. Smalling loved to travel, entertaining all with tales of her adventures. She enjoyed fellowship with her brothers and sisters in Christ, and visits with family, friends and neighbors. Mother knew no greater joy than to have her grandchildren and great-grandchildren about her.

Mrs. Smalling’s body will be cremated and her ashes interred at Liberty Baptist Church cemetery in Lafayette, Tennessee, at a later date.

Obituary for Odessa “Jean” Doss

Odessa “Jean” Doss, age 92, of Springfield, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted at 11am Wednesday, October 11th at Hopewell Baptist Church with Bro. Jim Woodard, Bro. Joe Donald King, and Bro. Brad Hall officiating. Burial followed in the Hopewell Cemetery with Richard Cobb, Terry Cobb, Tony Cobb, Trent Cobb, Lee Gunn, Zackary Gunn, and Stephen Callis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Ray Cobb, John Mark Cobb, Drew Cobb, and all the Deacons of Hopewell Baptist Church.

The family received friends from 4-7pm Tuesday, and again from 10am until time of the service at 11am Wednesday all at the church.

Mrs. Doss was born May 2, 1931 in Robertson County, to the late Rayburn and Odessa Moore Cobb. She was a homemaker and her greatest joy in life was loving and taking care of her family. Mrs. Doss was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church for 75 years.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Doss was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Doss; brothers, Ralph Cobb, Charles Cobb, Wallace Cobb, J.W. Cobb, and Rayburn Richard “Tom” Cobb; and sisters, Weltha Adams, and Edna Ellis.

Obituary for Jerry Wayne Graves

Jerry Wayne Graves, age 79, of Springfield passed away after at brief illness on September 19, 2023 at TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center.

Jerry was born on November 4, 1943 to the late Herbert Wilson and Susie Summers Graves in Cedar Hill, TN. He worked at Delight Products before retiring with 32 years of service and then enjoyed farming and caring for his dogs and cows up until his death.

He was an avid fan of NASCAR #9 Bill Elliott and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jerry was well known in the Barren Plains community, along with his son Jeff, for their famous pork barbecue and sausage. He always took great pride in his work rebuilding motors, gardening and canning produce and sharing with family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Summers Graves. He is survived by his son Jeff (Cynthia) and grandsons Evan, Frank and James. A sister, Betty (Chester) Fuqua and a brother, Wilson (Rosemary) Graves. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all, including his 8 nieces and nephews, 8 great nieces and nephews and 6 great-great nieces and nephews.

Paul Thomas Graves, 80, of Cedar Hill, passed away on Friday October 6, 2023, at his home.

Graveside services were conducted Sunday October 8th at 3:00 p.m. in the Dunn Cemetery in Cedar Hill with Pastor Rebecca Rochte Votral officiating. James Henshaw, Phillip Moss, Jaxson Moss, Frank Smith, Ralph Leftrick, and Darrell Burkhart served as pallbearers. The family received friends from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Robertson County Funeral Home.

Paul was born November 9, 1942, in Springfield. He was a graduate of Jo Byrns High School Class of 1960 and was a retired construction pipefitter and a farmer. Paul was a former member of New Chapel United Methodist, where he taught Sunday School, and was a current member of Porter’s Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member and past Master of Western Star Lodge, a 32nd Degree Mason, a former Shriner, and a member of the Pipefitter’s Union Local 572. Paul enjoyed hunting, camping, riding horses, roping, woodworking, playing guitar and mandolin, and was a dog and horse trainer. He was preceded in death by his father: Jewell Graves, by his mother: Julia Head Graves Moss, by his grandparents that raised him: Morris and Myrtle Head, and by his brothers: Mark and David Moss.

floral squarePaul is survived by his wife, Mary Wilks Graves, whom he would be married to 60 years this coming December, by his son: Michael Graves of Murfreesboro, by his daughter and son-in-law: Dawn and David Arnold of Adams, and by his grandchildren: Ashley (Colton) James and Blake Arnold and fiancee Hayley Dozier.

Ms. Marcia was born February 17, 1932, in Springfield, MA, to the late Herbert W. and Josephine Dean Russell. She was a graduate of Classical High School in Springfield, MA. She was a retired secretary with the Friendly Ice Cream company in Springfield, MA. Ms. Marcia was a volunteer with the NorthCrest Auxiliary for over 25 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: John A. “Jack” Nelson.

Lori Michelle Pyles Lockmiller, 45, of Brentwood, passed from this life on Wednesday October 4, 2023, at her home.

Funeral services were conducted Monday October 9th at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home with Tim Harris officiating. Interment followed in the Rock Springs Cemetery with Tony Neal, Sam Dickerson, Kent Evetts, Keith Shelton, Mac Pyles, Trevor Dickerson, Stetson Dickerson, and Brent Neal serving as pallbearers. The family received friends on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Lori was born June 9, 1978, in Nashville, to the late Robert Mac and Sue Bracey Pyles. She was a graduate of Greenbrier High School Class of 1996. She received her bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and was also a member of the MTSU Dance Team. Lori enjoyed being a cheerleader for the Tennessee Titan’s for two years, and then always enjoyed going to the home games and tailgating. She was a stay at home mother that loved being involved in her son’s school and sporting events. The true loves of her life were her sons, Nicholas and Robert, and her dogs, Daisy and Stella. Lori had a funny sense of humor and a sweet disposition.

Earl Wayne Blackwell, 76, of Greenbrier passed away at his home on Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

His remains were cremated, and a service is not planned at this time.

Mr. Blackwell was born on June 28, 1947, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife: Patricia Cheek Blackwell, and his brother: Harold Blackwell. He honorably served our country in the Navy and was also a retired auto mechanic. Earl enjoyed buying, building, and collecting guns in his free time. Above all, he loved his floral squarefamily, especially his great-grandkids.

Surviving Mr. Blackwell are his stepdaughter: Paula Reynolds of Springfield, grandchildren: Kacie and Bethany of Springfield, and great-grandchildren: Ethan, Jonathan, Amaya, and Jr. all of Springfield.

Donald Wayne Gilliland, age 85, of White House passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at his home. He was born December 12, 1937 in Corinth, Mississippi to Luther Hester Gilliland & Fannie Bell Barker. He worked in the shipping and receiving department for Zenith in the manufacture of televisions. He enjoyed sports and collected sports memorabilia, especially things related to the Dodgers, Stephen Curry or Peyton Manning. Mr. Gilliland was a very talented handyman and was very involved in the deaf community. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren most of all.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patsy McAlister; son, Marty Wayne Gilliland; sister, Delores Kopf. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Joyce Gilliland; son, Donnie (Kimberly) Gilliland; daughter, Mary Lynn (Michael) Chapman, all of White House, TN; brother, Denny (Nila) Gilliland, Corinth, MS; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

Michael Lee Hamby, age 55 of White House went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 7, 2023 at Skyline Medical Center. He was born June 19, 1968 in Kingsport, TN to David and Peggy Sproles Hamby. He worked as a maintenance technician for Lifeway Christian Resources. He enjoyed motorcycle rides, going to see the Nashville Predators, watching football, going to the car races, camping and fishing. Michael enjoyed listening to audio books and had listened to approximately 3K plus books during the past six years. He enjoyed being involved in the motorcycle ministry more than anything else and used it to witness for Christ. He attended Long Hollow Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Reneé was born on September 21, 1962, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Grady & Carolyn Sesnan Dorris. She was a registered nurse who specialized in behavioral health. Her profession gave her the opportunity to take care of others for 40 years. She was a member of First Baptist Joelton.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Karen Dorris.

She enjoyed dancing, music, playing board games with her friends, going on cruises, visiting the beach and sailing. She was always the life of the party and was very silly and very social with everyone.
