Greenbrier Fire Leaves Rose Street Home a Total Loss
GREENBRIER, TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) – A Greenbrier home is likely a total loss following a Thursday afternoon fire.
According to Greenbrier Fire Chief Kyle Hamel, crews were dispatched to a residential structure fire on Rose Street on Thursday afternoon. MAP Initial reports indicated that the porch was on fire, but when crews arrived, the fire had extended into the attic and was fully involved. Greenbrier Police were the first to arrive. “We responded and found that the attic space was heavily involved with fire,” Hamel said.
Fire crews first focused on protecting the house to the left. “We protected the house to the left, cause fire was showing from the attic area in the home’s eve on the left side of the house, what we called the bravo side, so we did spray water on that first to protect the adjacent house,” Hamel said.
An interior attack was attempted but had to be abandoned for safety reasons. “We made an attempt to attack the fire inside, but the fire had progressed to the point where it was unsafe, so we took a defensive position with hose lines on all sides, until we gained control of the fire and re-entered and extinguished it,” Hamel stated.
The residents were connected with the Red Cross through EMA. “To my knowledge, no one was hurt, residents or firefighters,” Hamel confirmed. “The house is likely a total loss,” Hamel said. “A large portion of the roof on the left side of the house was burned completely away.”
“Greenbrier Police helped out tremendously,” Hamill said. “White House Community Volunteer Fire Department, the Ridgetop Fire Department, were called in as mutual aid, and the Springfield Fire Department was special-called to provide manpower. “Everyone did a great job. It was unfortunate that the fire had progressed so rapidly and was already showing through the roof of the house when we arrived,” Hamel added.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
