According to Robertson County EMS, the motorcyclist, now identified as 18-year-old Hector Santos Martinez, did not survive. He was pronounced deceased after a fierce effort to save his life by local first responders and TriStar NorthCrest Medical Center in Springfield.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol, which is leading the investigation, has also released additional details that confirm what we learned last night. According to the THP’s preliminary report, the as-yet unknown driver of the SUV (a 2000 Nissan Xterra) was traveling east on West 21st Avenue when the driver ran the stop sign at South Main Street and struck Martinez, who was riding2008 Honda CBR motorcycle traveling north on Main Street. LOCATION OF CRASH The nature of the crash left Martinez with little hope of avoiding the crash.

According to the THP’s report, the driver of the Nissan fled the scene on foot, and charges are pending as the investigation continues.  Both vehicles came to an uncontrolled rest on East 21st Avenue.

Security video from the One Stop Market on the corner, released to Smokey Barn News, shows the SUV running the stop sign and crashing into the motorcycle. Smokey Barn News has reviewed the video, and we have decided to roll the footage in our video report below; however, viewer discretion is strongly advised: the footage is graphic due to the mechanics of the crash.

As soon as officials are prepared to release additional information, we will bring it to you.
