Reckless Driving Stop Leads to Escape in Handcuffs, Foot Pursuit, and Recapture in Adairville
ADAIRVILLE, KENTUCKY: (Smokey Barn News) – Police say a late-night traffic stop involving an impaired driver and multiple intoxicated passengers turned into a foot pursuit and the temporary escape of a handcuffed suspect Friday night.
According to the Adairville Police Department, on December 26 at around 9:37 PM, Adairville Police Chief Ashby observed a 2009 white Chevrolet pickup traveling southbound on US-431 operating recklessly and crossing into the northbound lane. A traffic stop was initiated in the 3000 block of US-431 South.
The driver was identified as Dary Wirner Miranda-Gabriel, who police say appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. Officers also reported four male passengers inside the vehicle who (according to police) appeared to be intoxicated and were actively drinking alcoholic beverages while the vehicle was in operation on the roadway.
Miranda-Gabriel (pictured) was taken into custody. When Chief Ashby attempted to detain the remaining passengers, one fled the scene on foot. A pursuit followed, and that individual was taken into custody. During the course of the arrest of the passenger, the operator, Miranda-Gabriel, was able to escape from custody while still in handcuffs.
Hours later, at 3:22 AM the Russellville Police Department made contact with an individual on the bypass matching Miranda-Gabriel’s description. After confirming his identity he was then taken back into custody and lodged in the Logan County detention center without further incident. The Adairville Police Department was assisted by the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, the Russellville City Police Department, and the Lewisburg City Police Department.
