ICE Center In Adams? Separating Fact From Speculation
ADAMS, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Yes, Smokey Barn News is aware of reports concerning a proposed ICE National Coordination Center potentially coming to the Adams area. However, there appears to be some confusion regarding what has actually been confirmed and what remains unknown.
Here’s what we know.
Federal contracting information associates the proposed facility with ZIP code 37010. That ZIP code is commonly identified with Adams, Tennessee, but geographically, 37010 encompasses a much larger area than the incorporated City of Adams.
ZIP code 37010 covers approximately 79 square miles and extends across portions of both Robertson and Montgomery counties. Approximately 60.31% of the ZIP code’s geographic area lies in Robertson County, while approximately 39.69% lies in Montgomery County.
Perhaps more importantly, the incorporated City of Adams represents only about 3.27% of the geographic area covered by ZIP code 37010. If you’re going to play the percentage game, a small percentage of Clarksville also falls within the 37010 ZIP code.
Put another way, roughly 97% of the land associated with ZIP code 37010 lies outside the incorporated City of Adams.
That distinction is important.
A federal document identifying 37010 does provide a geographic clue, but it does not establish that ICE has selected a location inside Adams city limits. A potential site within that ZIP code could be elsewhere in Robertson County or across the county line in Montgomery County.
The percentages should also not be interpreted as mathematical odds of where the facility will ultimately be located. Site selection isn’t random, and factors such as available commercial property, infrastructure, leases, accessibility and other requirements could substantially affect the location.
At this time, Smokey Barn News has not located publicly available documentation identifying a specific street address, property or parcel for the proposed center. Other media reports indicate officials in Adams, Robertson County and Montgomery County have also not been provided a confirmed location.
What does appear clear from the available information is the nature of the proposed operation. The facility has been described as an ICE National Coordination Center associated with the agency’s 287(g) operations. Based on the information currently available, it has not been identified as a detention center.
So, is an ICE facility coming to Adams?
The most accurate answer right now is: possibly, but that has not been established.
The available information points to ZIP code 37010, and the City of Adams is located within that ZIP code. But Adams itself represents only a small fraction of the approximately 79-square-mile area covered by 37010.
Until ICE or another federal agency identifies a specific property or address, stating definitively that the facility will be located within the City of Adams goes beyond what the currently available information establishes.
Smokey Barn News will continue monitoring the project and will update this report when a specific location is confirmed.
