ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  Wet weather associated with the remnants of a hurricane moved into Robertson County over the weekend, leaving roadways slick and contributing to multiple crashes that kept first responders busy throughout the weekend. Officials say the wet weather likely contributed to or compounded several crashes Saturday night into Sunday morning, including three serious crashes on I-65, I-24, and Lights Chapel Road that left multiple people seriously injured.

I-65 Crash – One Critically Injured

According to Cross Plains Fire Chief Tommy Jackson, emergency crews responded to a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 65 southbound near mile marker 9.5. The call came in at approximately 11:55 p.m.

Jackson said a pickup truck rear-ended a van before leaving the roadway. The van sustained significant rear-end damage, including broken taillights and damage that pushed the rear bodywork down toward the tires.

The pickup’s lone occupant was trapped in the vehicle, requiring approximately 15 minutes of extrication. According to Jackson, the patient sustained significant head and chest injuries and was considered to be in critical condition.

Two occupants of the van, who were traveling to Alabama, were evaluated but declined transport to the hospital.

The Cross Plains Fire Department, Robertson County EMS, Robertson County EMA, Tennessee Highway Patrol, and Robertson County Sheriff’s Office responded.
