Apr 20, 1945 — Oct 10, 2026
Hendersonville, TN

Paul Ray Coleman, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, passed away on October 10, 2026. Born on April 20, 1945, Paul lived a life marked by dedication to his country, unwavering love for his family, and a deep commitment to those he held dear.

Paul proudly served in the United States Army from 1963 until 1990, completing more than 27 years of military service and attaining the rank of Sergeant Major. Throughout his distinguished career, he demonstrated the leadership, discipline, and dedication that defined his life. His service to his country was a source of great pride and remained an important part of who he was.

Following his military retirement, Paul continued his career of service by working for the United States Postal Service for 10 years. He later worked as a school bus driver for the Sumner County school system, continuing to serve his community and help ensure the safe transportation of local children.

Above all his accomplishments, Paul’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He shared 63 years with his beloved wife and the love of his life, Betty Jane Coleman (Sivak). Together, they built a life centered on love, commitment, and family, raising their children and welcoming grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immeasurable happiness into their lives.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, William B. Coleman and Lois Mae Coleman (Lindsey); his sister, Dolly Groom (Coleman); his beloved daughter, Connie Sue Galbreath (Coleman); and his cherished great-granddaughter, Emerson Kate Ayers, who passed away at just 16 months old.

Though Emerson’s time on earth was heartbreakingly short, she shared a special and enduring bond with Paul. The love they shared left a lasting mark on his heart and remained a precious part of his family’s story.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Jane Coleman (Sivak); his son, Timothy Ray Coleman, and daughter-in-law, Cindy; his son, Danny Eugene Coleman; and his son-in-law, Keith Galbreath.

Paul especially treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a proud grandfather who found joy in their company and took great pleasure in watching them grow. Among those closest to his heart was his granddaughter, Tenley Ayers, who affectionately called him “Dadden.” Their special relationship was a treasured part of his life, reflecting a deep and lasting love that will forever remain in her heart.

Paul’s love for his family extended across generations. He was immensely proud of his grandsons, Evan and Eric, and his great-grandchildren, Adley and Sawyer. Each held a special place in his heart, and the memories they created together will remain a source of comfort and strength for years to come.

Paul will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, and a soldier who dedicated more than 27 years of his life to serving his country. His life was defined not only by the rank he achieved or the careers he pursued, but also by the family he loved, the relationships he nurtured, and the countless memories he leaves behind.

His family will forever cherish the lessons he taught, the stories he shared, the time they spent together, and the love he gave so freely. Though his passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who loved him, his legacy of service, devotion, and family will live on through the generations.

A soldier, a husband, a father, and a grandfather—Paul Ray Coleman served his country with honor and loved his family with all his heart. His watch may have ended, but his legacy will never fade.

May he rest in peace, reunited with his beloved daughter, Connie Sue, and great-granddaughter, Emerson Kate, and forever remembered by the family whose lives he helped shape.

Rue Nick Ballard
October 19, 2026

Rue Nick BallardSPRINGFIELD, TN – Rue Nick Ballard, age 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee, after a battle with an aggressive prostate cancer, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on February 3, 1948, in Red Bay, Alabama, Nick grew up with a lifelong love for the country and a deep pride in his Alabama roots. Though he called Springfield, Tennessee home since 1989, his heart always held a special place for the family farm back in Red Bay.
Nick earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama in 1971, cementing a lifelong devotion to Crimson Tide football. Education was deeply important to Nick, and making sure his children had access to a great education was always a top priority in his life.

Following college, Nick applied his sharp mind and remarkable organization skills to a multi-decade career as an expert in plant management. He spent decades supervising manufacturing operations across textiles, clothing, sewing factories, and bath fashions.

Nick was married to his first wife, Sharon (Underwood) Goodchild, with whom he shared his first three children: Rod, Todd, and Nikki. Throughout his life, Sharon remained an important part of his story and family history. Later, Nick married his wife, Rosa Figueroa Ballard, expanding his family with Joseph and Miguel. Rosa became his steadfast companion and pillar of strength, remaining devotedly by his side during his fight against cancer.

Spirited, smart, stubborn, and an occasional worrier, Nick was above all a man who lived with dedication and style. He insisted on looking sharp wherever he went whether attending holiday gatherings, running daily errands, or heading to a doctor’s appointment. An avid marathon runner, he treasured the miles and memories shared with his running buddies. In his quiet time, he could often be found lost in a good book, enjoying a classic Western, playing his guitar, or listening to obscure bands no one else had ever heard of.

Nick possessed a true appreciation for life’s simple pleasures: homemade pizza, collard greens, and buttermilk and cornbread.
Nothing brought Nick greater joy than his family. He was immensely proud of his children and took every opportunity to brag about their achievements and successes.

Funeral service will be Saturday, October 24, 2026, 3 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL.
