ADAMS AREA HOME DESTROYED BY FIRE SUNDAY

ADAMS, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) –  A home in the 8600 block of Highway 41 between Adams and the Kentucky border was destroyed by fire Sunday afternoon, according to officials. MAP

Adams Fire Chief Donovan Tucker told Smokey Barn News, when crews arrived, fire was already coming through the roof and the rear portion of the roof had collapsed, the first call coming into 911 at 4:55 p.m. Tucker said strong winds quickly drove the fire, making it difficult for crews to keep up with the flames. “It was wind-driven,” Tucker said. “The wind was pushing it, and we just couldn’t keep up with it.”

Multiple departments responded to assist, including Adams, North Robertson, Cross Plains, Guthrie, and Pleasant View fire departments. EMA and EMS also responded to the scene. Tucker said additional help was requested due to the wind conditions and the speed at which the fire was spreading.

While crews were battling the structure fire, the flames spread into nearby grass and at one point jumped the railroad tracks, igniting another small fire that firefighters also had to contain.

Tucker said the home is considered a total loss. A family of three lived in the home, and all made it out safely, Tucker said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Tucker said he does not suspect foul play. It was not immediately clear whether the renters had insurance.

Firefighters remained on scene for several hours, returning to the station around 9:15 p.m. Should the family reach out to the community for assistance, we will bring it to you.
