Adams Tobacco Barn Destroyed in Blaze

ADAMS/ROBERTSON COUNTY, TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) – A tobacco barn was reduced to ashes after a fire broke out on Richards Road in the Adams-Cedar Hill area, marking a total loss of both the structure and its tobacco contents.  Adam’s Fire Chief Donovan Tucker estimated the loss of the barn at around $80,000 coupled with 5 acres of tobacco worth about $50,000 bringing the estimated damage likely north of $130,000.

The scene, captured in photos and video by Tatiana Chestnut, wife of Adams firefighter Roy Chestnut, shows the complete destruction of the barn and acres of tobacco, the first call coming into 911 at 4:42 PM. MAP Fire agencies, including the Adams Fire Department, North Robertson Fire and Rescue, the Cross Plains Fire Department, Robertson County EMA, and EMS, responded to contain the flames.

Chief Tucker added that the farmer did have insurance but that will likely not cover all the losses. Nearby structures were at risk, with embers from the blaze igniting straw on the ground, however, local workers acted quickly to extinguish the burning straw and firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other structures and a nearby tree line.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
