After 25 Years, Lease Forces Closure of Springfield’s Whitt’s Barbecue
SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE (Smokey Barn News) – After serving Springfield and Robertson County for 25 years, Whitt’s Barbecue at 3516 Tom Austin Highway has announced it will close its restaurant location after the property’s owner decided not to renew its lease; the business announced on social media on Saturday.
According to owner Jeff Plank, the restaurant’s (Springfield location) final day of business will be Saturday, Aug. 15.
Plank said the business searched for another location but has been unable to find one that meets its needs at this time.
While the restaurant is closing, Whitt’s mobile operation will continue. The business will continue serving customers from its food trailer at community events and will also be looking for additional opportunities to set up around Springfield. Plank said anyone with a potential location is encouraged to reach out.
In announcing the closure, Plank thanked the community for supporting the restaurant over the past quarter-century.
“We have enjoyed meeting new friends and we have enjoyed you letting us into your lives whether it was birthdays, graduations, weddings, funerals or even just stopping by the restaurant for your usual,” Plank wrote.
He also thanked the restaurant’s customers, friends and employees, saying they will be “deeply missed.”
Whitt’s Barbecue will remain open through Aug. 15, and Plank invited customers to stop by over the next two weeks, even if it’s just to say hello.
The closure affects only the Springfield restaurant location. Other Whitt’s Barbecue locations remain in operation throughout Middle Tennessee, while the Springfield business plans to continue serving the community through its mobile operation.
