Andrew Koontz, Independent Candidate for Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District, Outlines His Platform (Paid Political Advertisement)
Hello,
My name is Andrew Koontz. I am an Independent candidate running in Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District to become our representative in the U.S. House of Representatives. I have a Master of Arts in History from Middle Tennessee State University. I am a lifelong resident of our state, a history instructor in higher education, a historian of U.S. history, and a long-time volunteer in youth education. In this moment and in this election, I am a concerned American citizen who wants to make a difference, improve the lives of my neighbors, and support the democratic and republican values of this nation.
I am going to be honest and straightforward with you. By most metrics and predictions, I am bound to lose this election as an Independent candidate. I entered this race knowing that probable outcome. I do not care. My concerns for my neighbors, our nation, our world, and our future outweigh the hard logic of my campaign’s situation. This moment is too important to stand idly by and watch while our nation sinks into the throes of economic hardship, social strife, and governmental collapse.
So I will not beg, plead, or coerce your vote from you. Your choice in our political leadership is a sacred right in this nation and under our Constitution. I will lay out my policies for you to decide.
I support Medicare for All. Think about the complexity in our current healthcare system. It does not make sense that it works. Countless options and purposeful complexity contradict each other, burdening us with extreme costs and a lack of coverage. Health insurance denies our right to life and profits from it. Bureaucracy is a majority of the system, not the actual doctors and nurses treating patients. Medicare for All simplifies the system, cuts expenses in insurance and treatment, and allows healthcare workers to focus on care, not profit.
I demand Right to Repair and Reliability. This includes cars, electronics, and agricultural equipment. Local mechanics should be able to change oil, brake pads, and other high-wear items on vehicles without special tools or programs. Customers should have access to cars and appliances with physical buttons and minimal electronics. Farmers should have access to and control over their own equipment, repairs, and maintenance. We deserve long-lasting and sustainable products created by and for Americans.
We need AI and Data Center Regulation. Large AI companies have broken their promises to use artificial intelligence for humanity’s benefit. AI features are introduced everywhere without consent, and users are not allowed to turn them off completely. Data centers cause water shortages and the cost of electricity to rise. They take over our farmland and communities for investor profits. These companies preach the dangers facing humanity from AI as they are the ones piloting the ship over the waterfall. To stop this national disaster requires both a national and local response.
I support Land Rights and Environmental Protections. In American history, property is a near-universal element in the major struggles of our nation’s people. Foreign companies and billionaire investors are buying millions of acres in states across the nation, pushing out local farmers and residents. Our natural areas are under siege from people more interested in the green dollar bills than in the beauty and sacredness of our environment. The American working class is losing its access to property, land rights, and nature’s beauty.
These are some of the major campaign policies that I would focus on while in Congress if given the chance. And just to address the inevitable: I am not a socialist or a communist. I am a God-fearing American citizen who would show up and do the job my neighbors pay me to do. I am here to make a positive change and a difference for my neighbors, for our nation, and for our future.
That is my pitch. It is your choice who you want to elect to our nation’s highest offices. Regardless of the outcome, I will be here in Tennessee trying to make a difference, no matter how big or small. Stay strong. This nation and its people will endure as they have for hundreds of years.
