Body Found Triggers Death Investigation In Springfield

SPRINGFIELD TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – Springfield Police have initiated a death investigation after a body was discovered in a yard on Woodland Street in Springfield. MAP

Robertson County EMS, Springfield Fire, and Springfield Police responded to the home located in 1800 block of Woodland Street this morning just before 8 am.

Officials tell Smokey Barn News that the body is that of a male estimated in his mid-20s.

Detectives with the Springfield Police Department are investigating. The decedent will be transported to the Forensic Center in Nashville where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause and manner of the death, according to Assistant Chief Russell Gupton with Robertson County EMS.

Springfield Police Chief Jason Head told Smokey Barn News that detectives have already developed some persons of interest and there is not likely a danger to the surrounding community.

According to Chief Head, the exact cause of death is still under investigation. Detectives will have to determine if it was self-defense or a homicide. A source told Smokey Barn News that the injuries appeared to be consistent with a stabbing.

Chief Head added that detectives are still very early in the investigation and more information will be released later on but preliminarily, detectives believe the incident revolved around some sort of dispute where the body was discovered.
