Boy Finds Human Skull Near Creek on Springfield Greenway

SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – A human skull was found along the Springfield Greenway this afternoon. A young boy made the grisly discovery. The skull (clearly human) was positioned on the edge of Sulphur Fork Creek, the first call coming into 911 at 1:27 PM. This is the same area where the human decomposed leg was discovered back on July 4.

The skull was discovered near the Sulphur Creek Memorial Boulevard bridge, which is across from the Pavilion at the Robertson County Fairgrounds.  MAP

According to the City of Springfield, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s CODIS Unit reported a preliminary DNA match of the leg to Joseph Frank Benton Senior of Springfield. FULL STORY In all likelihood, the skull (if real) will belong to Benton, but that would be speculation. As of the time of this report, Springfield has not released an official statement regarding the skull.

Officials have also not released further details on the cause or manner of death, or how the leg came to be in the creek. Perhaps the skull will reveal new information. As soon as officials are prepared to release more information, we will bring it to you.

The Springfield Greenway was not closed during the Police investigation and remains open at this time.
