BREAKING: One Dead, One Injured in Train vs Vehicle Crash Near Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Tenn. (Smokey Barn News) — One person is dead and another seriously injured following a train versus vehicle crash on Monday near Springfield.

The crash occurred along Kinneys School Road. According to initial reports, after colliding with the train, the vehicle went down a ravine, trapping the occupants.

Robertson County EMS transported one patient to an area trauma center. A second individual did not survive.

Springfield Fire Department, Robertson County EMS, Robertson County Sheriff’s Office, Springfield Police, and THP are all on scene.

First responders were dispatched to an address between the 100 and 200 block of Kinneys School Rd. MAP A citizen told Smokey Barn News that they heard the train screeching to stop.

Smokey Barn News has learned that, due to the mechanics of the crash, you can expect the investigation to continue for an extended period.

Kinneys School Road is currently closed. The train remains stopped and is expected to block multiple crossings in the area for an extended period as the investigation continues.

UPDATE: The THP is now releasing more information about the crash. According to their preliminary report, the victim who did not survive the crash is now identified as 25-year-old (mother of two) Jodi Owens of Tennessee.

The report states that Katherine Rawls, 25, driving a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu, left a residence and crossed the tracks in front of an approaching train. The vehicle was struck on the passenger side and went down an embankment. Rawls was injured and transported to an area trauma center. We do not know her condition.

According to the report, Rawls is facing charges pending the outcome of the investigation. Specifics of the charges have not yet been specified. As soon as we have more information, we will bring it to you.

Jodi (Arms) Owens

According to her online obituary, Jodi Anna Arms Owens, 25, of Cedar Hill, was a lifelong member of the community. She graduated from Jo Byrns High School in 2018, had worked at Baldwin’s Barbeque, and was a member of Center Point Baptist Church. Jodi loved the outdoors, 70’s music, and spending time with her two daughters.

Jodi’s funeral services will be held on Friday, February 27th, at 2:00 p.m. in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home (2201 Memorial Blvd, Springfield, TN MAP) with interment to follow at Bellwood Cemetery in Adams.
