Community Rallies Around Greenbrier Student After ATV Accident

GREENBRIER TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – This is an update to our report of an ATV accident that injured a Greenbrier area student Friday afternoon in the Ridgetop/Greenbrier area.

Ty Turner, a Greenbrier Middle School Student has been hospitalized with serious injuries following the accident and was airlifted to Vanderbilt Medical Center Friday afternoon. Now the Greenbrier community is reaching out to the family with love and support. Almost immediately following the accident Greenbrier Middle School began to receive texts messages and emails asking how they can help the family.

For those that would like to assist the family, GMS MAP is now the official drop off for cards, letters, or gift cards.

According to school officials,  gift cards for restaurants near Vanderbilt hospital are also being accepted.

On the school’s  PTO FB page, a note from Principal Kathy Carroll read; “I told him his GMS family and community was praying hard for him and we needed him to fight! Please keep this precious family in your prayers.”

According to the Turner family, ” Ty- Ty’s surgery was successful and his intracranial pressure is decreasing! He will stay under anesthesia for several more days. We won’t know his prognosis until after they take him off anesthesia and can assess his mental status.

“Everyone that knows Ty knows he will pull through this! Thank you so much to everyone that has come to visit him and that has been calling, texting, and leaving messages and comments. And all the pictures you are all sharing of Ty on here are just amazing for us to see. Thanks for all the love and all the prayers, we are so grateful to have the friends, family, and community we have!”

Background: Around 2:30 pm Friday afternoon, Lifeflight helicopter landed at the Ridgetop Fire Department helipad. A 13-year-old boy was injured in some sort of ATV accident on Walker Rd, officials said. MAP

According to officials and witnesses at the scene, there were four occupants in the ATV at the time of the crash. All four sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation, as soon as they release more information on the cause of the crash, we will bring it to you.
