Controlled Burn Leads to Garage Fire Near Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, TENNESSEE: (Smokey Barn News) – For those of you who messaged us regarding a large plume of black smoke visible northwest of Springfield Monday evening, it was, according to Fire Chief Chad Gregory with North Robertson Fire & Rescue, a “controlled burn gone bad.” The fire had spread to the garage which was fully involved and was making its way to a treeline when first responders arrived, the first call coming into 911 at 6:22 p.m.
The structure is located on Old Highway 41 North near Hwy 161. The garage was a total loss but no injuries were reported and thanks to quick action by North Robertson Fire & Rescue, the Adams Fire Department, Robertson County EMA, and EMS, the fire was contained before reaching a wooded area and adjacent home. Fortunately, there were no injuries, and concerns about a gas or propane tank were alleviated when it was found to be empty.
This story comes on the heels of a release from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture on Monday. The agency has announced that, starting Tuesday, October 15, burn permits will be required. They emphasize the importance of extreme safety, noting that most wildfires are caused by burning leaves and debris.
